  1. Speaking of that >_> I don't know if I complained about this earlier, but Gilbert in mp5 took ~400 heads and none of us could attack him because of that same thing. So after we complain a bit, Gilbert is informed about this change, and STF and ome begin a wonderful chat about this coming-of-age and initiation into the giants of magicduel while we sulk. I don't think it was assigned improperly, but it would have been nice if he had been notified before he began taking heads or if that action was made impossible. Recently more and more have become like this, like alche and some other people I don't remember. I'm not sure if this is a bug or not, but going from the chat Gilbert, STF and ome had, I think that there's a chance a lot of new rpcs are going to appear (like a shopkeeper). Could be wrong.
  2. Well, there are definitely worse books. But I don't read them~ IMO.. those holes were pretty large..
  3. The idea derives from several different stories in multiple mythologies; there are countless examples. It's also used in fantasy work a lot. Okay, this is a bit off-topic, but ugh, Eragon. That series got to be one of the worst fantasy series I read.. I can't believe a movie was made of it. Reminds me of Harry Potter. Especially in the second book. Well in any case, I don't want to spoil it for anyone, even if it is horrible in my opinion, so I'm not about to complain in detail.
  4. Really? I thought he meant that even after we go out of alpha, a lot of things would still be changing (but it would still go through beta and into official).. but still, the main things like the battle system and whatnot would become fixed in alpha. In any case, the problem is that wikipedia wants notability for the subject of any of their articles, and magicduel doesn't really hasn't been significantly received by game critics or become well-known. But usually that stuff comes after alpha, if even in beta.
  5. I like to think it is nice that we're all close enough to tell each other frankly what we mean. *cough* I only wish Lulu would stop badgering me when I speak like that in real life.. I can understand what Thanasia is saying. Let's just call it Tree. It's even capitalized in the topic.
  6. I agree with chewett about Manu's plans. However, if wikipedia is strict about following its notability guidelines Eldrad was talking about (post #28), then I'm not so sure they'd accept any article we'd write up. Eventually, maybe (I'm inclined to think probably), since I believe magicduel will attract attention with its unique concepts. This is an odd kind of alpha.. a lot of major things are being tested, many plans still have to be implemented and the game is far from beta testing, I would think. Yet the game is open to the public and magicduel even needs advertising to increase the player count. Well, I think some things need a large amount of players for testing so that the results will accurately represent what it would be like with the amount of players magicduel is supposed to have when it's finally done testing, but in any case it's an interesting predicament: trying to publicize it while it's still in alpha and undergoing major changes constantly. I think things will be fine without a wikipedia article with regular advertising until magicduel actually goes out of alpha.
  7. I'm not sure the first idea suggested by Ratsplat is the best, because sometimes the area has landmarks in the background from another area (like Wind Tower when you're going from Marind Bell to MDA), and switching the arrows would make it contradictory. They are a bit confusing at first but I got used to them pretty quickly. Sometimes I still waste a bit of AP going in the wrong direction, though. The color-coding idea is fine except it would kind of irk me because it would imbalance the amount of color in whatever place the arrow which leads to the area you came from is. What that what chewett was saying? Dark gray doesn't break with magicduel's color scheme, if that's what chewett meant. In any case, I would prefer some other kind of marking to differentiate which arrow leads to the previous area, maybe bolding the arrow or making it slightly opaque. Well, it would be fine if all the arrows would display the name of the area it leads to when hovered over, too.
  8. Hallo-ay. Curiousity: random link where?
  9. That makes me very sad. I think someone else expressed this before, but naming it Sage would conflict with Sage Keep. I bet there is a tree or shrub by that keep. It would make my head hurt, honest. Also, "sage" is only a tad bit better than "majestic" in terms of overuse. I prefer any of the other options in the poll to it. How horrible. Not to mention sage is an herb, too. It'd be like naming a tree an herb, you know? EDIT: I do not kick puppies. To the contrary, they are the ones who grow to harass me.. always barking and chasing; when they're not trying to threaten me off their territory, they're trying to make me disgusted by their pouncing and saliva attacks. I dislike that type of dog worse than the adjective "sage".
  10. Maybe I'm confused.. The honor exp bonus is a bit muddy in my head. The only thing I knew was that there was some sort of bonus and people were spamming attacks to farm losses and get honor easily. Someone said that there was an exp bonus for 200 honor, so I assumed it was a definite multiplier for exp (like balance), but it seems like that's wrong when you say that the reward is unlimited for high honor attack. In that case, I still think honor should give an exp reward in some way, perhaps a "set value" like balance, only the balance reward should be greater no matter what. It would be better if the honor reward was exponential, increasing at every defined increment (like 500 or 1000), because then players would continue to try to get honor to the max. The balance reward could be significantly more than the reward of honor at max value, and then the system would still work. Like I said earlier, I think the concept of honor is good. It was supposed to "punish preying on the weak" as you said, and if it can still work with some adjustment I don't see why the exp reward needs to be removed.
  11. Why do that? The honor system is a good concept; the only thing that makes it work so badly is the fact that it gives a better reward than balance, making getting it the priority for players who therefore do so by farming losses. If balance is made the priority, then it will work fine even with the bonus. Also, the bonus make honor actually worth something.. if removed, players will be encouraged only to keep in the positive, not get the most they can. In fact, I think that there should be multiple exp bonuses of varying degree directly proportional to honor value, or else players will only want to keep 200 honor (except to get MD items). Well, I suppose more features connected with honor are to come in the future.
  12. I do not kick puppies.. >_> In any case, I like Bob. All of the examples you gave were long strings of words.. that's sacrificing the euphony. It's Bob the Tree.
  13. Hmm. Well, I haven't experienced it since then, so maybe it's fine.
  14. LOL dst! You have things mixed up here. All of the adjectives you named are the common ones. They're so archaic that it's lame. My English teachers tell me not to use them and those of their kind in my work because they're nondescript. Bob is a name with character. It has euphony because it's short and definite, easy to say. It's also a very uncommon name in comparison with other names in modern times.. just think. How many people do you know who are named Bob? How about Robert, John, Steve, David, Andrew, Nick, ect? Bob fits the game very well, in my opinion. It has a sort of lackadaisical and yet creative connotation; while the game may appear dark and realistic, there are aspects of it that aren't. Just look at the avatars with goofy smiles and think about going on a bizarre rampage attacking clowns.
  15. ... ;; I think that's cheap It should be a fighting ability that is activated during it's turn and for a certain target! And erm, yeah, I think we should have some way of discerning the cause of the freezing in the fight log otherwise people like me won't figure it out.
  16. So this time there wasn't an imaginary creature but the only creature in my attacking ritual (single maxed ele) was frozen and couldn't steal life. I think I saw other people conversing about having "frozen action" in the chat earlier today.. I think it was STF, not sure.
  17. Let us name the tree Bob in the memories of all my Bobs who died gracefully in the sudden and devastating epidemic which stole upon our happy shared lives like a thief in darkness.
  18. The honor system was meant to encourage people to attack others who won more fights but instead discourages them from keeping a balance. I agree with Eldrad; if balances becomes more rewarding, then the honor system will work as it's supposed to.
  19. See where it says "(nothing) will be protected by" and "Glaistig's remains frozen, skipping turn"? I don't know why, because I don't have that creature. And btw, I didn't make those words red, they were already red. No, it's not like I just tried to rename one of my creatures nothing. The only creatures I put in my ritual were a grasan, walking tree and chaos archer. There was a health bar shown in the fight too, but no picture of a creature underneath it. I wouldn't mind except it actually affects the fight; my tree lost vit healing this imaginary creature. I attached a picture which shows the situation described above. Also, even though I lost around 2% (due to the martirism casting) vit like it says in the results page, it also says that I lost 0 vit. I didn't have any healers in my ritual.
  20. I think all of your points make sense. Just a while ago STF was saying that the challenge of maintaining a balance worse for inactive players who idle, too. Some changes could make the system better, especially concerning how the players are still reaping losses. But I think at the same time the system is not nearly as bad as some make it out to be, even considering the fact that no matter what there will always be more total losses than wins. You can say it contradicts the game concept of balance, but those who manage to keep a balance can still play a fun game while the losers (again, literally) can play their own way and sacrifice the fun. Also, my impression has been that the situation is better than previously, at least. While before empty wins were at a constant and steady rate being fed to the recipients of weak rituals for the purpose of farming losses, I actually don't experience that anymore. Maybe it's because of the head contest. In any case, the same problem existed before the new system and the severity has decreased, although it doesn't look like it is gone.. I still say that a lot of the blame should be put on players who purposely continue doing the same thing.
  21. I'm too poor to have any gaming consoles. I dearly hope magicduel will stay free.
  22. Yuh. I think it has to do with a certain secret feature released a while back. But I don't know if I should speak of it. Let's just say that it deletes certain fight logs when activated, and so the same fight logs recorded in the corresponding player might be deleted at the same time. My guess. Feel free to delete if I'm wrong, someone.
  23. Well, I disagree with (or am confused by) most of the people here. My thoughts in chronological order: Morgana (post 2)- erm, well in the first place the new system was not implemented for mp3, so it's not like the new system has made it better for the "newer players." Also, that's the natural order of the game. You have to first train your creatures on people with low vit and the weak before you can begin squaring off with your equals or more experienced players. Throughout the time you're playing, you'll have older and more experienced players who sometimes will attack you (even the best in mp5 have rivals), and the challenge is the beat them. I don't really see how it took (takes) advantage of new players. I like the new system just as you do but I can't comprehend the reason you posted why. Aqune and those who agreed with him/her (post 5)- Do you really get as many spam attacks as you used to? Maybe it's because I've mostly been running around and not staying at Willow's that often, but it's not like I get wins shoved onto me with low vit. or one-creature rituals even when I am there for a long period. Or not that often at least, and only by people I consider (no offense meant) dimwits, and for the following reason. If the player reaction to the increased losses incurred by the new system wasn't to get more losses so as not to lose honor when attacking others, the balance reward system would work. I'm sure some players would be able to maintain their balance and they could attack each other for honor, which would mean the reward for having 200 honor wouldn't be bad. Take me for instance- once I started getting more losses than necessary (relative to balance, of course) I've mostly been trying to get wins, which pretty much the most fun part in magicduel. Sure, I still have more losses than wins (Won: 1242 | Lost: 1481), but it's been relatively stable. And while I may have -270 honor at the time I am typing this, if I could find other players who reacted like me, that would not be the case. I think you should be complaining about the players, not the system. MB (post 6)-... well, you can just read what I typed above. You're a loser (no offense- you can interpret that literally). Getting the bonus from keeping a balance should be much more rewarding that whatever you gain from your loss count as compared to other players because of the fun and satisfaction from getting victories from others! If you find getting losses and contributing to the problem more fun, well, I hope you become the minority. Eldrad (post 9) and those who agreed with him/her- I would interpret that in terms of balance, since obviously the game still obviously interprets "too many wins/losses" according to that with the honor system. Plus in my opinion, the game's interpretation is logical, and it is the players like you who try to get as many losses as possible which makes the system work horribly. Yoric (post 11)- I'm pretty strong in my conviction about this one. Even before mp5, people spammed me with weak rituals to gain losses. I went to mp5 hoping to get crushed and regain balance which was very difficult before. Instead, the same thing happened and my balance worsened; I ended up ignoring it. This continued until the new system was implemented. Were you in mp3 when the new system was implemented? Maybe that's why; in mp3 it's always pretty hard to get many more wins than losses. By mp4 before the implementation of the new system, people began realizing that getting tons of losses could have its advantages (which I consider cheap and small as you can judge by my previous responses) and would give wins to people like you. And while you may be right about your last statement if players continue getting more losses on purpose and ignoring the balance concept created in the game, I disagree with you if they don't, as you probably can figure out by my previous replies. ~~~ Well, that about sums it up for me- it's true that games are supposed to cater to players instead of players to games, but I would rather both the game system and playerbase be intelligent. I'd quit otherwise. I didn't mean to bash anyone but I get pretty frustrated. Feel free to refute me and I hope I'll recognize if someone has a valid point and feel justifiedly abashed, or otherwise stop being one of (literally) loser crowd so I can actually get honor from somebody. I like the challenge of the new system and getting victories. EDIT: I suppose I should also give my opinion about phrog's idea, which sounds ideally violent at first. phrog (post 14)- That would be bad if the system actually works out (like I hope it does! I don't want to have to conform to another new system), because then people would begin bashing without restraint.. That'd be scary for me.
  24. I used pen and paper + word document. Doesn't mean much in any case; I gave up shortly after the contest ended after I spent around 36 hours on it. I was sort of growing depressed because of all the people saying they felt stupid for not getting how to solve it the easy way after solving it, since I couldn't solve it at all. Hurrah mates! Forget about the puzzle and let's be together in our failure~
  25. Yeah, it's pretty pathetic (to me) when I acknowledge that a fair amount of the time I'm thinking of magicduel. But welcome! Don't feel like you're the only one.
