Zyrxae got a reaction from John Constantine in Forum Reputation System Poll
I've talked to Chewett and apparently the following reputation options are possible:

        •    'Like' system—what we currently have. You can now view who likes what posts, by the way; thanks Chew!
        •    Positive and negative, transparent rep
        •    Positive only, transparent rep—almost the same as the like system, but you have to click to view who liked what
        •    Negative only, transparent rep
        •    Positive and negative, opaque—what we used to have
        •    Positive only, opaque
        •    Negative only, opaque
        •    No reputation system at all—means what it sounds like.

Transparent means you can see how people have voted on posts; opaque means you can't.

Options such as making negative but not positive votes transparent or vice versa aren't supported by the forum software.

Some discussion has already taken place on this topic, but it's been over a month and people's opinions may have changed.

Lastly: I have an opinion about this topic. If you consider this poll biased, say so and we can go from there.
A tiebreaker poll could be used in case of a runoff, but that may be unnecessary—we'll see.

Historicity overall seems like so much Ancient Lore.
You see 'Syrian rebels' in the news and immediately wonder what kind of falling-out could have happened with Azull.

Zyrxae got a reaction from lashtal in Ann. 2804 - Volition skill for lowering viscosity
How it seems to work currently:

    - Walking through +40 visc gives .08 volition
    - Walking through a scene with between +38 and -78 visc gives .02 volition
if your step lowers the viscosity in the scene (that is, if you haven't walked in the scene in the past hour). If you have walked there too recently, you gain no volition.

    - Walking through -80 visc gives .01 volition
no matter how recently you have walked in the scene.

This holds true no matter your land loyalty or whether you're walking through your homeland, giving an advantage to people with loyalty in large, rarely traveled lands.

Zyrxae got a reaction from Kyphis the Bard in Ann. 2804 - Volition skill for lowering viscosity
Why not just: If you take a step through viscosity and there are non-idle people your scene or in an adjacent one, you gain volition according to how many people there are and the amount of visc on your scene?

Members of an expedition group would each face a tradeoff at each scene: "Should I take the first step and lose a lot of AP but gain more volition, or should I wait for others to clear the way and get less volition?" which they could work out among themselves.

Tell them it doesn't need to be perfect or completely laid-out from the start and that coming back to something after a while can make it better than it seemed like it would have been at first.

    Resolve

verb 1. settle or find a solution to (a problem, dispute, or contentious matter). 2. decide firmly on a course of action. noun 1. firm determination to do something.   It satisfies the stubborn drive to storm through viscosity, to find something even if you have to make it yourself, and can be broken or eroded when you get bored or tired while doing something.

Will those who walk through viscous areas they have loyalty in also gain this skill in equal measure?

I.e., is the point that you persevere through something specifically difficult for you, or just something that would be hard for the average person to move through?

That's always been a tricky one, but since this outfit benefits (or degrades) Bookie's reputation and not Andur's (he's merely posting here for Bookie), I don't see the harm. RP-wise, it seems like Andur decided not to run the contest again but did inspire Bookie to fill the void. With a name like Bookie, you'd almost have to..
It will help Bookie's case (and be more fun) if he has a life and personality outside of this operation, though.

Good point; you may want to encourage each person who bets something unsplittable to bet a type of thing that hasn't already been bet.
It happened last time; who's to say it won't again?

So if, say, 3 people get 1st place and 2 get second, the pot will be divided into 8 shares: 2 each for the first place winners and 1 each for the second placers?

Zyrxae got a reaction from Maebius in Torch Competition proposals
We're currently looking at possible changes to the Torch Contest. Some ideas are below, as well as some previous topics for reference.

While you hold a torch, your Torch Team replaces your alliance page (although you remain a member of your current alliance.)
    - While on the same scene as a teammate, the General has the power to take away that teammate's torch
    - Alliance chat would be team chat
    - "Jump to leader" would jump you to the General

The closer you are to the enemy capital, the more AP needed to take a step.
    - While on enemy territory, have the amount of AP needed to take a step while holding a torch be based on the number of steps needed to reach the capital of the land you're trespassing on, from your current scene.

The more people bearing torches of the land you're trying to score against that you kill, the greater your score when you reach that land's capital.
    - For example, if you're from GG and you're trying to score at Raven Hold, killing people with LR torches will count double as much as killing people bearing torches of other lands. If you later decide to score at Wind's Sanctuary instead (without scoring or having been killed), then your kills of MB torchbearers will count double as much as your kills of non-MB torchbearers.

Other torch idea topics: 1, 2, 3, others?

More ideas are welcome and can be split into other topics as the discussion warrants.

If you haven't yet received something you had been promised through an event such as the Personal Request Month, the most recent birthday, or another (administratively sponsored) quest, post here:
    - Your playername
    - Your player ID
    - The reward you're seeking
    - A quote showing you deserve your reward, with a link to the post the quote is from

and you should get your rewards sooner rather than later. Please do keep in mind the overall busyness of our coders in this process; your patience is just as appreciated as your assertiveness.

Zyrxae reacted to dst in Storm Coast - sound effects
This is not really a new idea since sounds are already implemented in scenes (see Willow's Shop and MDP). But it would be something nice. Also, maybe some forest sounds can be implemented in few places. Or others like that in scenes that can handle such small improvements.

    Craft It Yourself!

    Quest Description:
Before finding a small parchment lying on the side of the road you would never imagine that you would be immersed into such adventure...
A adventure full with puzzles that will lead the player to travel the realm following clues and hints to find some secret construction plans and the needed resources to craft his own tool! (1 use/non-transferable)

    Notes:
1.Once the player had finnished the quest he would be able to reconstruct the Tool (1 use/non-transferable) by redo a part of the quest that requires quite a good effort (and AP..)
2.Adventure would consist in 5 major puzzles and some other small adventure interaction (similar to some of my former quests)
3.Adventure will need to use more than 3 of the new clickables
4.Adventure will need to use some of the new Non-Transfer items
5.Adventure will require access to NML,GG and MDA.. quite a bit of travelling will be needed.
     6.All automated and partially replayable

Zyrxae reacted to Change in Where is the punishment for Murder?
In a game where death is not permanent, stealing becomes the biggest crime. If someone steals your life, you can get another one (although it might be an expensive process). If someone steals your 'Ancient artifact of lores unseen', you have to steal it back, otherwise you lose it forever. If the item stolen from you is an expensive consumable and the thief uses it, you're out of luck.

Of course, in real life, the punishment for death wouldn't change. Death is very painful (in lots of cases) and it could scar someone for the rest of their lives. While death is still an illegal act in most places, it doesn't hold the taboo that roleplaying or doing other subjects does. Thus you get the whole issue of murder being more acceptable than swearing, since murder is a part of the game.

While murder is treated lightly in lots of games and rpgs today, I don't necessarily think that's a good thing. We're teaching kids that it's more acceptable to commit murder than it is to be politically incorrect.

MD can change this, but only if people are willing. If there are no consequences to murder, the players can make some. Players can agree to not speak to, trade with, sponsor the quests of, etc., of someone who has hired someone to commit murder or has murdered someone themselves. Lands can choose to banish people who commit murder against anyone, or they can choose to banish people who commit murder against certain people.

People might cry foul for someone being punished by others because of the role that they chose, but that's just stupid. If you choose to murder someone as a part of your role, others can choose to not talk with murderers as a part of their role. Or, they can choose to worship murderers if they want. It's their choice.

The only cases where this fails is when someone doesn't care about trading, socially interacting with people, doing quests, etc. These cases will be rare though, and if it's possible for a player to not care about such punishments, it's equally possible for a character to not care, and people will just have to deal with it.

I had an idea to gather solar energy during the sunny weather in a form of heat. Make sort of hybrid between heat jar and improvised rain collector - "solar energy collector". Could be an alternative way to gather some heat especially for young players with low stats.
