Spoiler They say imitation is the best flattery there is, but what about plagiarism? Anyway, this is how I feel about MagicDuel (in the words of another): As you set out in MagicDuel hope your road is a long one, full of adventure, full of discovery. Angry rants, bitter fights or creepy folks - don't be afraid of them: you'll never find things like that one on your way as long as you keep your thoughts raised high, as long as a rare excitement stirs your spirit and your body. Angry rants, bitter fights or creepy folks - you won't encounter them unless you bring them along inside your soul, u…

I'm gonna share something with you because I am getting old and some stuff that I held to be true before just doesn't make sense anymore. I can't find stupid people in my world Yesterday I went to do some house viewing and one of the houses was a nice little setup. The story was about two young lovebirds who bought a house and made the necessary arrangements to live in style there, but some years ago things happened and they decided to leave for UK for good. Now the house is empty, but look how beautiful it looks! Everything's new, the location is great, it's a bargain! Everybody would say 'They were stupid to leave all this'. Regardless, my bullshit radar act…

One of my newest most favorite things to do is to turn idioms in other languages and transliterate them into BAD English memes. Please help me with this endeavor. Thank you. The goal of this is to: A) Provide me with immense amusement while not exhausting my MD meme-fodder for next year's quest B) Provide you with at least a modicum of entertainment C) Teach me and others who view this topic about the idiosyncratic interactions between language and culture through idioms. For your consideration:

I want to start off with a big "Thank you!" to everyone I've met here, and most of all, my deepest and sincerest thanks to Manu for creating Magic Duel. I am not exaggerating when I say that I am eternally grateful for the wonderful experience I had in the year I spent here. Whether you know it or not, I stumbled upon this place in the midst of a series of game-hopping to take the edge off my depression. And MD did more than I ever expected. All of you whom I've met and spoken with, have in a way made me a better person. I simply don't have the words to describe how grateful I am for my time here. But alas, all great things must come to an end. For personal and practic…

*huff huff* Doc, doc, help me, I'm dying! Whoa! What happened to you? Your head looks like a swollen tomato! I have a panic attack, help me, please! Alright, alright, lie down, I'll give you a shot. ...better? Yeah, somehow. I gave you some morphine. It should last for a while. What happened, anyway? I kept thinking about the flu virus and the casualties and suddenly I couldn't breathe anymore. Can you give me one more of those shots? No can do, got my regulars to think about. Your regulars? Yeah, the chief of police's son. What, is he suffering from panic attacks too? And more. If I don't give it to him, h…

Chapter 1 - Fatso Spoiler "I must act very impressive" thought the bulky woman, if I act carefully enough, and do what i know best i will be a winner. Just need to keep my head down and my chin up, i can enslave everyone slowly then get on a diet or something, maybe surgery. No need to think about the negative, and the seeming reality going the way i do not want, to be honest i'm shocked, she thought. I am hitting as hard as i can yet there is no effect from my slaves, the fools who do not know the tricks i know, and they do not worship me or benefit me always so i don't know what to do. I keep praying, screaming inside, and do all sorts of maniacal thi…

When I was practicing Aikido (for a very short period of time) a very long time ago, what we did was a little meditation after the warm-up before going into techniques (I think it's called zazen?). It was there to clear the mind of any thoughts and I think it worked. I sometimes did it at home and I always found that my voice was comparably weaker after doing it. During meditation, you don't do much - you just stare, if your eyes are open. It was because of it that a very original fear/thought occurred to me. It's about language. Only after reading a bit on language did I realize speaking is hard. I mean, you just learn it in infancy, so you never really understand h…

I started reading the 'dawn of astronomy' again, but this time mixing chapters. Spoiler There's something very interesting about the fact that 'we owe' so much to the Egyptians, from math to religion to agriculture to astronomy (where 'we' is probably 'humanity' and 'owe' refers to the foolish idea of 'progress'). They're probably the first to measure time by the Sun, instead of the Moon, the first ones to distribute plots of lands equally using more-or-less complicated math, the first ones to create a strong priestly cast (differing from the shamanic traditions) - or the first that we know of in detail. But I digress - here's what caught my e…

these days, when looking up some stuff online, I saw myself blocked from accessing the content of several US sites. naturally, one assumes they were awful sites - don't worry, bros, I was checking up stuff like wildfire protection (don't ask why). the awful sites are freeeee to access, as deviancy cashes. when you see Tennessee blocking the site or California not 'offering services to that region' (the EU), well...one gets suspicious. Are we in a new internet phase? I've been seeing a crackdown on piracy, on internet freedom and a general policy of restricting access to information, but it gets to levels I didn't imagine. here I am, blocked by Tennessee, becaus…

After reading Robert Sapolsky's book 'Behave' and various other articles about the topic of human nature, I find myself torn between two contesting questions; are we the agent of our own actions? Or are our decisions just mere products of our own chemical processes? Is free will an illusion? If I decide to slap my wrist to prove that it was my choice to do so, am I really the author of that decision and not influenced by synapses triggered in my brain (e.g. proving myself that I have free will)? If you decide to have coffee this morning instead of tea, what made you choose coffee when you can freely switch to tea anytime you want? Did Charles Whitman shot and killed…

Hello, i present you a possible challenge. I has no expected answer, but if anyone presents a very interesting and plausible solution, i will reward it with wishpoint(s). Imagine you reach a point in your life when you realize that you lived that portion of your life many times over and over again, reaching the same outcome every time, but each time you return to the beginning of that series of events (not the beginning of your entire life) getting a new chance to do something that will change the outcome. You are not able to bring back any memories with you. You have only a narrow time interval when you start to realize the story repeated, but too l…

Years ago, I read a small book (could've been a resume of the actual work, wouldn't know) written by a french guy, on indian philosophy. I used to buy cheap used books from such 'bookstores' arranged in small stuffy kiosks or even in the street. The book had around 40 pages and i'm proud to say i didn't understand most of it. It was 'too advanced'. Even so, I remember two ideas: one regarding life present in all things, and a strange classification of 'selves', with 7 central selves and miriad of lesse ones. The indian philosophy is highly introspective- some time ago, listening to a course on world philosophy, i was struck by that. Anyways, I've been consideri…

(Quick contest: what could l.a.w. stand for? Latest anonymous wusses? Liberty among walruses? Least atrocious wimps?) I took a gander (british enough?) on the forum and accidentally saw that yhe Md Court section has almost 1k posts (hurry up to meet the millenia!). That's more than, say, New player roles and legends, has. Now, fighting is normal, but lately i've seen fighting, but no sueing. What this means is that Law is not as important. You may have the memory of law being enfirced in the past, you may see it now and then with some anon. that implies there is an authority. But without trials, you don't actually see it, right? Not that i want to…

Quick question: do you think an alphabet system is better than a syllabary? All letters were ideograms at first, and i suspect they got refined into syllabaries in all languages and then - the third phase - alphabets were up (and not everywhere). Now, having signs for vowels and consonants might allow for more combinations, but is language supposed to cipher so much? Also, a consonant cannot be pronounced by itself - even an aspirated ones - and besides, why bother to speak like your tongue is stuck? Why am i asking this - i have the feeling (untested, but maybe i'll learn japanese or something) the computation power needed to individualize (when writing …

In the spirit of celebrations, at this late hour I would like to propose a little text to sooth the heart and mind. To those who would object the following is not suitable for certain ages, I say I was subjected to religion classes when I was 10. My text does less brain damage than those; but, if you remove it, I will not argue. The tale starts with two neighbouring villages, which lived in a relative peace. Occasional fights occured, but were easily dealt with, and the village leaders were content with their rule, and not seeking conflict. The same cannot be said about the village priests, two shriveled-up men who deeply resented eachother. One worshipped an obscure…

A company or a site/forum that deals with text-based adventure games for mobile phones? Last year I decided to write one, but as I was writing it, I started to hate the original story (saga of the volsungs). So, not finding a way to get past that, I quit. Yesterday I found it and...man, what a game it would make! A viking setting, runes, dragons. Maybe I can pass the idea and what I managed to write to someone who can develop it. For free, of course. Can someone help? Thx

Bored and curious. The first person that spoke to and offered me advice was some person named Yoshi back in 2008. I was around 15 or 16, first online game and had no clue what I was doing. I was looking at the Berserker Way puzzle and he told me to go to the PC. I don't think I was ever contacted by an LHO on my main account back then, only on alts years later when I returned. LHO's are probably a given so LHO and the first normal person would be interesting to know.
