Future unimplemented rules superceeding current rules
Chewett replied to (Zl-eye-f)-nea's topic in General Forum
I cannot comment on DD's anger, but if he is upset then I do profusely apologize. The Lab map is the most well known and traded spoiler, by putting it in the public for a week or two should not have affected anyone very much. The presence of two MP3's passing the lab map from one to another (clearly they didnt make it) clearly showed me this not to mention the number of people I talked to who said "oh yeah I was given the map". It was a calculated risk and one that paid off greatly. I see two types of spoilers, and this is quite possibly how things are going to be split. Lore Spoilers: What is the lab, what does it represent, etc Mechanical Spoilers: How do I get through the lab? The distinction is between "MD players" and "grinders". Both of these players are accepted into MD, but it was more designed for the "MD player" who researches, looks into lore, roleplays. First we are working to get the grinders happy, this is based on making things a little more public, (note I dont mean fully public) and getting mechanics to work better. This is important for the continued health of MD. We need these players to play and keep things going. Once this has been done, we shall be able to ignore these boring "mechanics" and then work more on the lore and develop that, including things like start the AL again. We can focus on having a core set of "knowledges" known, and then having lots of areas to research. Eventually that will have certain people being able to "confirm" researches as truth, once they have had them confirmed by the Loremakers (the GM's). We are going through some quite big changes, and not everyone is going to like them but we cant help that. Combat is easy to understand the basics and hard to understand the advanced plays. We are going to provide a lot more detail and this will become even more apparent. This will mean that those that study it will be able to get a lot more advanced than they currently are. -
Future unimplemented rules superceeding current rules

The idea came when I was sitting in a scene with one vaguely new, and another new player. One was telling the other that to reach GG they could go via the labyrinth, They told them it was hard, so the first person then just sent them a link to a map. The lab map is the most traded "spoiler" iv ever seen and is exactly the type of thing that would be made quasi public as the rules change. This is all part of the plan to make MD "more" playable. The whole spoiler culture does cause a lot of our players to leave and its really sad. It is good to see many people support such things being "vaguely" public. Also: +rep by Mur, all is approved :P thats how it works no? Im only allowed to do things Mur approves? amiright? lol -
Previously Grido held a poll, open to all LHO's letting them vote yes or no for a LHO being admitted. This did not occur with you. This is what she is talking about.

Future unimplemented rules superceeding current rules

There are lots of games where certain spoilers dont actually affect it. You can do a quest by yourself, or you can go on a website and find out how to get through the lab, etc. Its all a matter of how you want to do it. We havent yet decided where we will fit into this spectrum, so we are doing tests, seeing what people think, etc. -

A couple weeks ago or so, I asked dst to publish the lab map on her blog for a number of reasons. The main one was that I wanted to see the communities reaction to a spoiler being posted on an outside site. It is well known that the spoiler rules are slowly changing, but they have not yet changed. It is good to see a lot of people care deeply about how spoilers are treated in MD. Its interesting to see that many players in MD would rather many things be posted publicly, and some would be fervently against this. As someone raised, it is hard to stop if someone anonymous posted all the spoilers they had then we wouldnt be able to punish or stop them to be perfectly honest. We also cannot stop people sharing spoilers privately (since we dont and wont ever monitor PM's, etc) so attempting to "punish" those is actually impossible. Some things, we have encouraged people not to share and some things are less lax about. For example I have heard from good friends/spies/people that at least two lands have an archive of knowledge including lots of details about all creatures, attacks, how to farm them etc. We cant suddenly try and ban everyone using them because, while my friends have told me this in confidence, thats all and I wouldnt want to do that. Things like creature images, are important to us as should be kept secret. Things like their stats, less so. In a discussion with Mur we discussed the idea of posting all details about the entire combat system. Mainly because anyone that spends the time to learn it all and apply it, deserves the knowledge. Its not something that someone can read 5 lines and know it all. I learnt a lot from reading your discussions on the forum and its very interesting to see such polarizing views. In conclusion, and reply to Z, yes what dst did is currently punishable, and what she did would have been punished. But she did it by my request, so If you want to start formulating a punishment, it goes on me. It would be good to see some further discussion about spoilers if people wish to continue. dst will be removing her post. -

"My friend advice me this site . He says that this site is very good for pickuping girls" I doubt anyone will get the reference though :(

We probably want a configurable set of links, some let you vote every 24 hours, some reset a specific time, etc. BFH, any comments?

Double entry is something that will ensure credits are properly sent. This will be how it will be fixed :)

CTC's do not fit the pattern you have suggested.
-
Reconsider this before you continue to suggest that they be moved :)

You misunderstand me here. The recruitment agent would screen the person, and decide yes/no themselves. This would be tough/easy but once they have approved them, Grido would be asked for his opinion and at this stage, its almost certainly going to be a yes, since he is just giving a final approval. If they have got through the recruitment agent they should be considered good as a LHO.

Firstly, thank you Rheaggy, dst and ary for your opinions. Good friendly feedback is always useful I have been working with Grido since about Nov to resolve these LHO problems. I have been aware of them for a while and have had quite a few discussions with him as to what I think is wrong, and what we have been able to do. While initially they mainly focussed on negatives, we have been working on a number of areas that require improvement and what can be done. I have also been talking with a lot of MD'ers to try and work out what they think the issues are. Actually I have talked to some of you about this process I am going through, so some of you have known I have been working on this before. It has taken a bit of time because me and Grido have spent a lot of time planning and trying to work out what we should do. Now is a good time to bring it publicly. Communication The first area we identified is communication between Grido (as the head LHO) and others. It appeared that there were a number of times when there were communication problems at various stages of LHO applications. While not unexpected to have some communication issues, it appeared that there was some confusion for people applying and such. Transparency LHO sometimes seems to be veiled in a level of shadow and mist. Reasons why people were demoted/promoted generally are not as public as perhaps they should. While some demotions shouldn’t be too public (so as not to further publicly humiliate people) perhaps at least a posting should be made saying. In addition to this, some feel Grido is not impartial. We know that no person can be truly impartial but we can try. Adding transparency will hopefully improve the view of Grido being pretty good at impartiality. Idleness Grido is indeed more inactive than usual. This cannot be helped currently and it is likely to get worse for the next period of time. Him agreeing to other work is a personal mistake and is something not related to LHO role. He has slowed in agreeing to do things (actively said no when I asked if he wanted to do legacy work) which I feel is a good sign. Training Grido and I both agree that LHO probably needs some form of guide or training. We are looking to get someone, or a couple people, to help write this "guide" for LHO's. If prospective LHO's want to help write something like this. Replacement There has been discussion of his replacement, but as he pointed out, there isnt too many people that can replace him. Therefore the solution most discussed was having a number of people perform his role, and have him mange these people. Then he can train them and get them doing good work. If he had time, he would be one of the more qualified candidates. Actionable Work New MD Guide - Since Nov Grido and I have been planning a new LHO system to introduce them. This will include a guide, and some basic questions and answers, including a mentor system for new LHO's. http://magicduel.invisionzone.com/topic/16401-lho-improvements-new-md-guide/ Recruitment Agent - Since Grido is really busy, and to reduce the number of PM's that people have to send him, having a new recruitment agent for LHO's will be a major boost. This will be the person who handles recruitment. They will send a persons name to grido for a final "yes/no" which will almost always be yes. http://magicduel.invisionzone.com/topic/16402-lho-improvements-recruitment-agent/ Transparency - A lot of the LHO's and people I talked to discussed mentioned some uncertainty about actions that happened within the LHO's. Lets talk about how we can improve this situation. http://magicduel.invisionzone.com/topic/16403-lho-improvements-transparency/ LHO Rules - A number of people have raised concerns about rules applying to LHO's, lets dig further! - http://magicduel.invisionzone.com/topic/16400-lho-improvements-lho-rules/

A lot of the LHO's and people I talked to discussed mentioned some uncertainty about actions that happened within the LHO's. Lets talk about how we can improve this situation. Are there any issues with transparency within the LHO group? What do you think needs to be clearer?

Do you think you could do this job?

Since Nov Grido and I have been planning a new LHO system to introduce them. This will include a guide, and some basic questions and answers, including a mentor system for new LHO's. The process would be that, when a new LHO is appointed they will be assigned a mentor. This will be the person that will look after them and someone who they can go to about everything. It would be expected they talk to their mentor weekly or so and report back many of the things they are asked and any problems. This would keep a new LHO held nicely above the water. What content do you think should be in this new guide? Do you have any other comments about the process?
-
A number of people have raised concerns about rules applying to LHO's, lets dig further! There are a number of LHO rules meaning that they get harsher punishments for doing bad things. For any rule that people think is bad or needs changing please post it here and we can discuss it and hopefully make the system better!

Ask Koshu, I think Mur and I have replied to all the questions.
-
This is why you ask questions, through Koshu.

The majority of that we have access to freely. Please ensure you have read the topic throughly, we are looking for people to document the technical aspects. E.g. instead of giving us a list of creature names and their stats (something we can get from the db in one query) we want stuff like a list of the abilities and how each ability works. How you can add more abilities/creatures into the game etc.
-
While guesses about how the system works are amusing, they are in the end pretty futile and can end up spreading misinformation. So personally I would discourage guessing and telling people these guesses. Simply put, when the system was set up (PC - Pre-Chew) the tradelogs were stored with the items and means that on using these tradelogs are lost. There is a plan for a system which would change this, and make the tradelogs much more useful (and less likely to break) but this involves converting over a large amount of data, or writing a hack between the current systems. So its all planned out, I just havent decided when I will eventually implement it. Since there are a lot of things vying for my time I dont know when this will get done, but its all planned out and noted down. So, it works like that yes, its not that great, but thats how it is.

I didnt say "they are coded differently but should be coded the same" I said specifically, "they use exactly the same mechanism so should act exactly the same". They should probably stack. But that code needs some changes since it works really oddly.

Iv no clue what this means...
