Valy is not playing much, he is online when he has to see locations and such. Like with all the artist that come from outside the game you have to understand Valy is not a player first of all but an artist and then a player (if at all)..so if he is no longer online in game it doesn't mean he left for good. I worked with many people, scattered scenes and creatures allover the realm and especialy avatars are the work of many individuals, 3 of them you never met because they never had a md account ..but over time Valy became my friend and his work for MD is the most consistent and covers now 80-90% of what is here. All what you see its his imagination, like i said countless times i am not telling the artist what to draw exactly (except when its realy something that has to be that way) but i am telling the guides, the main feeling, ideea and concept of what i want to come out, thats what matters for me. The artist is free to do anything that in the end will have the same result. From time to time big time gaps happen between me and him, like it did with chapter 3 art. He is not at all a constant artwork provider, but when he does, he is the heavy artilery so to say. I remember back in the old good days when he was doing like 8 scenes per day, no artist i worked with after him could equal half of that. The best best thing about him is that i can communicate with him without many words, it happend to me that i had to explain people 100 times what i wanted and still didnt got what i wanted, but with him is the opposite, in fact i think even if i dont explain anything at all i will get what i want and thats the most important thing of all. Working for such a long time on MD he allready knows some things about it, things that save countless hours of explaining and reasoning. his main job is not MD however, i wish it was but its not, so Valy works on MD only from time to time, but as a person he is a friend that i talk to constantly.

Myspace and other big sites have an option to enter your user and pass of your gmail/yahoo/hotmail and the site will automaticaly show you a list with emails you have in your addressbook so you can select the ones you wish and send them a custom invitation to MD. You get a credit reward for all that register as your adepts and reach the next MP level. In addition to this i can store a hash of your addressbook emails that you send emails to and give you a fied credit reward (i am thinking of 0.20$ credits for each email adddress that gets a click back to the site. Its needed to keep a signature of the emails on the server to prevent using the same email address twice. The conection to the email server will be done in a secure way, no user/pass will be stored on the server and your addressbook will not be harvested, but of course this is a matter of trust. My question is, do you think such a feature would be useful, would you use it? DOnt just assume what other would do, just think of youerself, what YOU would do. I know i never enter my user/pass on sites such myspace even if i trust they have nothing to do with my contacts, but in my case i have good reasons to keep things private and i am also a bit paranoid .. but since this is starting to be a very popular method on many more sites and its also helping them to grow realy realy fast, i did this poll to see what md people think.

There are now over 450 avys in game, do you see so many players online? I don't. Avatars die together with their owners but right now it requires only a login every 6 month to keep your account active, thats close to nothing. I do not think its fair to keep avatars locked considering so many people could use one. I am not sure what the best thing to do is. My suggestion is to put a requirement or a fee for avys so that only active or paying members can keep their avy. My current price for an avy is 3$, on top of that i do not use all the avys i pay for, they do not recover their price but thats not at all the problem. The problem is that its hard to get fresh avatars because each artist i am working with can produce only a limited pack of original avatars, after that they start to repeat themselves or be crap. I plan to put severla thousand avys over time in MD, but in this way like its now, they will end up to be thousands of forgotten avys instead of having everybody of the current active players with one. Auction for the avys had a negative vote, which is fine because not all the active players with a good role afford to auction for an avy afterall. Suggestions and votes please.

I am trying to determine what are the best keywords i should optimize the site for. So ..what is it that you search for on google (for example) when you search for a new game like md? post your suggestions here and i will see what the positions are for the most suggested of them. Thank you.

there are several issues now with the 32bit system. Mysql is not able to load better than this, it could be a lot more better. By better i do not mean only speed. One major issue is that there is a user limit and only a certain number of players can be online at the same time. Also its allways better for things to work better. Why should we pay for such a server if its resources are not used correctly because of a bad OS.

Maintenance postponed for 6 july. Tomorow 1st july is Canada day (so i heard) and level2 tech support will be away for a week, so its better they won't do this today then dissapear for one week, if something happens is better they will be there to assist. Sorry for all the trouble.

Site will be down for several hours while server is beeing upgraded to a 64bit operating system. Backups will be used to restore md and a lot of settings will be different. Expect errors and weird behaviour once it is back up. I will try to fix them as soon as possible and with minimum "damage". At first everything will be installed only on one HDD then if its allright it will be mirrored on the entire array. If something goes bad the downtime will be longer. If everything goes smooth site should be up in a few hours and will finaly take full advantage of the entire 8Gb ram and not just half of it. I will keep this post updated. Bookmark it.

Analysing the associated data of the deleted accounts, i can tell that these were accoutns that were never actualy too active (90% of them not all). From 120k accounts there were for example only 163 pm messages. Only half of the creatures in game were associated with those accounts even if compared to the remaining 30k accounts they were the majority. I think this was a much needed cleanup, but i am woried how many people give up before they do anything. I might change the initial phases of the game to be more permissive (and addictive) so that more new players reach later stages. I think if they simply quit the same day they join they do not realise what they are missing

fighting will be slow for a bit more, currently i am deleting old and unused combat strategy records, quite a lot of them. After this there is only the market items cleanup and then the inventory and transfer of items will be slow, but thats not a problem. Remember the site will become faster and faster as the cache loads again. someone do me a favor and test a brand new acount untill it reaches mp4 please? login logout several times also during story mode to check dna-story bug too. MD is back 4 more processes to run , but i will run them later today and they will not cause to much trouble except one mysql reset.

this procedure will never be so heavy again, i think that next time when i will run it, it will have just a few thousands records to process and will take just a few minutes, so this is one time event. ..almost done

worst case scenario is that i will put a backup up from 2 days ago and repeat the procedure, but the backup might contain the modified accounts allready because this is allready happening for a day...and on top of that, i never used the system backups, i have no clue if they work Second scenario, the most probable one, is that the removed accounts wont be recovarable with all their data. I messed one of the settings table that holds info such as spelldocs, friends, a few mdshop features, but the rest should be just fine. This scenario might be the good one. Its about 200 lines of mysql code to run, i had to do it several times because it took over 6 hours to run and it didnt seem to finish. I found out later that this is because of mysql bug. Now the script runs in about one hour, but i am still working on it. Once this is complete, the next time things will go much much faster and safer, but now its first time and its running on data for over 2 years ..so ... I think in about one hour or less will be up, currently transfering about 200.000 creatures...the remaining data is much smaller I have to keep md closed during this process because tables get locked and you would see only errors from 5 to 5 minutes and the process will run much slower. i wonder why the 8 cpu cores are so relaxed instead of doing a "team effort" to finish this .... i will probably torture hosting after this...
