  1. When i'm 'playing' MD, i'm usually bored. With no contest/action, it's up to us to 'make' the action and guess what? People are lazy. Maybe not all, but i sure am. When I'm not playing MD, i remember the strange interesting times in it, and it all looks so attractive and aloof, i wanna come back. Then I open thr browser and i'm bored again. And so, in an endless cycle, i oscilate. Should we call it confusion or the movement of a pendulum? ______________________________ answer to first question; gonna stop here
  2. This sounds like a case of sclerotic congenial schizofrenia, so a serious investigation is in order.
  3. It's not true having merchants in power is better than having soldiers ruling. Wars still happen. It's deceit that starts them and deceit that doesn't start them. How is this a 'better society'? It's not, it's simply different.

I could interpret that to mean a lot of things I guess, but it makes me think anyways... Different isn't inherently bad, diversity you know. I heard it said recently something like "We change too slowly in a quickly changing world" it is leaving us behind, if we don't move forward. So a soldier might fight the war for the sake of war (honor/freedom?) but the merchant will likely fight for the wealth, "war is profit" as they say. Which of these two is more willing to change? I would bet on the soldier who is motivated by the people around them, perhaps misguidedly, rather than the merchant who is motivated by the things they may obtain.

I've had someone tell me, rather foolishly I might add, "people never change"

Different isnt bad, but i object to the idea of 'better'. It's not 'better', 'progressive' etc. So there are equally 'bad' alternatives to a world with merchants in power. Also, that slogan 'we change too slowly' is BS. Change is always apparent, not real

  4. (Guess what role has Sunfire. C'mon, guess, i dare you!!) That concludes the search fir the crew this year. With only 4 out of 7, the ship stays docked. For now...
  5. I'll sponsor 12 silver. Seems interesting
  6. This contest left me dreading because of the ugliness of my masks, so i decided some time later i'll go for better decorations and better masks. That's not gonna happen, though, because i'm too lazy. Basically, I wanted to do japanese masks, but while brainstorming, russian dolls came to mind. So i wanted to do that, got some decorations in mind, but i freaked out when i saw how much there is to draw. So i'll post here a template, if some hardworking player wants to work, you can do it! Just come up with riddles for the letter and start drawing. Here are the decorations (a,b,c...x,y,z): Apples.cherry branch.butterfly.spider.bee.flames.eyebrows.hair.sun.'necktie'.double meander.firtree.zigzag.grapes.flower brooch.meander.cheecks.moon.snail.chick.bell flowers.leaves.flower.tulip.berries.chrisantemum. It can get very artistic - occupying space is interesting. Here are some teasers, MB themed. A shoot is used for a repeating letter sometimes (for example, rikstar will have the 'r' decoration and a shoot - just to make it more difficult). Cant frickin upload. Oh well

  9. I fail to see the difference. The flow of life is good when you get to indulge in things which make you happy. It might be going for a walk at the beach or eating a gold covered chocolate cupcake or taking a whiff of weed or reading a book... whichever you prefer... I think they are quite synonymous with each other. 2. Anything out of confines is dangerous. Same goes for greed. Greed can be a good motivator for many things. But unleashed variants of greed can act like a drug. Learn to control it. Like a guard dog. Make it sit with one command, make it attack with the other. What I am trying to say is - You can love your guard dog and be strict with it. You can love it and spoil it to such an extent that you regret it. 3. The words 'the truth and nothing but the truth' cover the concept of honesty with ones self? Also.. that is as long as you stay in the witness stand. Perjury out of stand is not demanded or accounted for. 4. From what i understood by that quote is.. truth is more important that a friend? Thats probably because truth will never change and if you know it, you know what to expect of it for sure. A friend on the other hand... friendship depends a lot on time and situation. 20 years later, the person you call your best friend may not be a best friend. *shrug* But the truth, it will be the same even after 20 years. It will never cheat you. there is absolutely no risk if you know the truth. there is no gamble. 5. The concept of virus wiping out mankind isnt about superiority of a species but of Survival of the fittest. If the species of virus is stronger to wipe off mankind, there will be a certain genetic strain of humans who will survive the attack (fitter ones). The superiority of mankind comes into the scene because Mankind will retaliate back by creating a vaccine or a drug that can fight the stupid virus back because mainly we have a brain that gives a goal and motivation. Can you say the same for that virus? Can the surviving genetic strain of the virus retaliate back against mankind by producing a greater toxin or disease just to get back at mankind for destroying the co members of its species? Currently there are no species of living beings who can act back in such a sophisticated way. That is what makes mankind a superior being. The power of a mind. Intelligence is what makes mankind superior. Not physical fitness in entirety. This forms the basis of many movies though. Remember Aliens? and Predator? and Planet of the apes? Hehe
  10. The time is almost up for this one, so far only dst is going to war.
  11. Happiness being a good flow of life is the one that should be adhered to, having fun all the time is only practical in the short term, and often is unsustainable, and takes great effort to maintain, and will bring sadness due to withdrawal. a good flow of life however means to live comfortably and accept the things that are put in front of you as part of life, and not to dismess them because they arnt fun, or to force yourself to do only enjoyable things that ultimatly will bring sadness once they're over. * greed brings desire, desire brings goals and a need for progression, without greed humanity would stagnate and go nowhere and accomplish nothing, greed should be accepted, but be restrained, love greed for the goals and passion for growth that it gives you, but do not be consumed by it. * lying is exceptionally dangerous, lying to yourself isn't deliberate, but lying to others takes skill and practice, doing so makes yo better at lying but better at decieving yourself. at some point you reach a point where you know what to look for, and are able to notice how you lie to yourself and thruough that learn to understand yourself, this is a double edged sword however because knowing the "truth" migh tjust be another layer to the lie tha tyou tell yourself, and no one really knows how deep the hole goes. everyone lies to themselves in some way, yet everyone is honest to themselves in others, its a delicate balance. * truth is always there for you but you have to be able to see it, you need your mind to be compatable with it for it to accept it into consious being, everyone knows their own truth, but often rejects it into their subconsious, like a true friend, it never really goes away , but its there for when you need it. * everyone has a different view of life, you should not look down on others because they have a different view from you, form your own view on if we are superior, but do not let youself think you are superior to others because they think themselves better. if you do not agree, accept this and move on, doing your best to not judge them. everything in the world has its weakness, it's al ljust a circle, what is weak to one thing will be strong against another, a large lesson in humility.
  12. I'm not one to tell you how to live your life, but personally I'd prefer to ahere to the latter one. Hedonistic pleasure is as common as dirt nowadays, yet you still find people who follow that path end up self-destructive and unfulfilled. I'll take "good flow of life" to mean something like...when things are going good you are generally happy, but when things are going bad they never get so bad that they have a lasting negative influence on you; that is to say, if there's a problem in life you can solve it, even if it's incredibly hard and takes a long time. I think this definition ties into the concept of fatherhood. When I think of what fatherhood means to me, it almost crosses over with the concept of an ubermensch, it forces you to solve so many problems you've never faced or even considered before, and so I think that by becoming and being a father, you don't just learn how to solve a few problems, but you get better at the process of solving itself. Perhaps that's what they call wisdom. * If I had to choose from your three options, I'd say love it is the closest to my personal view on it, though I think loving greed itself would end in self-destuction as a one-dimensional person. If I were allowed to make my own option, I'd say you should court it. That initial phase when you're looking at a potential romantic partner, maybe you get that pit in your stomach when you think of acting on your feelings, but you know you have to do it. Under the current political/economic system in my country it's basically required that you're greedy if you want to get ahead in the rat race of wealth. Of course, that doesn't mean you need to act miserly and can't also be generous, but if you can't accumulate wealth in the first place, you don't get the option. In my opinion, it wouldn't be a natural human impulse if it wasn't somehow useful, so I would rather keep it close than consider it my enemy. * I think that's a good rule of thumb to consider, certainly. However "the more someone lies to you, the more dishonest they are with themself" is a dangerous assumption if pursued in the wrong way, and I don't think it's true. In a youtube video recently, I heard the idea that the concept of "my future self" is a workable approximation for God: He knows all my memories, motivations and feelings, I can bargain with him in the moment but he doesn't have to hold up his end (praying), and he has ultimate power over my life. There is a concept "lying to God" that's something like if you could get the rewards for saccing a creature without sacrificing it, or in other words doing something virtuous on its face but duplicitous in true nature or I think that's what it is. Ultimately, if you lie to yourself you will most likely either face the consequences eventually or die suffering eventually. Probably both, actually. * This boils down to the idea that you can't force an idea on somebody, they have to adopt it willingly. I heard about a concept that can be approached but never touched, perhaps it's something like that. The truth is absoluteat its center, yet we only ever get the shattered bits of its edges, and no man can know the absolute truth (and stay sane), perhaps. * I wouldn't necessarily say we're superior overall but certainly humans are better bridge-builders or terraformers (for better or worse!) than viruses, no? If you prefer, I can say we're different in a way that makes us unique enough to have avenues open to us that aren't open to other forms of life that we're aware of at this time. I guess a good generalization of that might be "superior" for some people.
  13. Not bad and congrats Lintara!

  15. Wow, such interesting entries. This proves people don't do quests only for the reward. Thanks.
  16. I hear a dog's barking, and it's slowly fading I hear birds' singing, and it's slowly fading I hear a newly-born's crying, and it's slowly fading I hear a cry for help, and it's slowly fading I hear the drums of war, and it's slowly fading I hear a sword unsheating, but it's slowly fading Which is more real - the sound of the world or the sound of my thought ?
  17. Missing two avatars - the joyful god and the crafter/builder. Going to resume the search at around 19 ST today
  18. In the spirit of celebrations, at this late hour I would like to propose a little text to sooth the heart and mind. To those who would object the following is not suitable for certain ages, I say I was subjected to religion classes when I was 10. My text does less brain damage than those; but, if you remove it, I will not argue. The tale starts with two neighbouring villages, which lived in a relative peace. Occasional fights occured, but were easily dealt with, and the village leaders were content with their rule, and not seeking conflict. The same cannot be said about the village priests, two shriveled-up men who deeply resented eachother. One worshipped an obscure star, the other, another obscure star, part of the same constellation. But despite the insignificant difference, they argued each day, growing ill feelings. So when one of them bought a woman (if that is disturbing, you can substitute it with a goat - but it's common in some parts), the stage was set. Gathering the villagers for the Sunday preach, the poorer priest told everyone they must attack their neighbours, for God wants them punished for their sacrilege. 'What was that?' asked the very surprised bunch. 'They are frolicking with animals. Usually sheep.' That was too novel to believe, so everyone asked gor a proof. The priest then called the village idiot of the other village and asked him how does he find woman. The poor idiot babbled 'beautiful' a couple of times, and that was considered irrefutable proof for interspecies breeding. 'Already they start sounding like sheep, we must do the will of God and punish all wickedness.' Now, common people may believe that, but, being common, they have their interest at heart. 'Well, I do not object to having more sheep. I liked Tom, if he becomes a ram, I will feed him plenty. I like his wife even more, and I hope she changes later, so we can...ah, nevermind'. To that, the priest warned of the dangerous disease as being highly contagious - even answering to a hello from an infected individual might make you catch it. That was a frightful thought, and everyone went home to start preparing for war. The intervention of a concerned villager made no difference. The man showed the results of a research project conducted over a period of a year, the data clearly showing that their neighbouring villagers slept with their wives. None were reported to handle sheep other than for milking, with the insignificant exception of the village idiot, who occasionally fondled one or two. His finds were quickly dismissed, being accused of working for the enemy, conducting illecit activities without the approval of parents and church, of being a sinner and a bad candidatw for any respectable bride-to-be. Not even his collection of a few Terrabytes of typical amorous behaviour between men and women wasn't accepted as proof; it was dismissed with 'evil does not perform sinister deeds on the film of a voyeur camera'. The collection was seized, however, in the interest of svience, by an interested party. The war was quick and bloody, and a triumphant priest seized the harem of the other, sending him in exile. Murders, rapes, burnings, all were done in the name of God, and the whole livestock, save the horses, was slaughtered. Most of the defeated villagers were torturef, the few that survived became slaves. Over time, doubts began to crawl in some people's minda. Some, overridden with guilt, killed themselves, others, became alcoholics. For a long time, hate towards others and self ruled. Only the priest was happy, and gathered a large disciples group. That, because the exiled priest's son secretly returned, and with his agents was trying to bring the downfall of his archenemy. Common people were brainwashed on both sides, and used to fight eachother, and hatred never died... After a few centuries, a young man tried to unravel the mysteries of the unnatural hatred between two neighbouring villages. He rummaged through scrolls, talked to people, did his utmost to find what really happened. And it was such a dissapointing endibg for him to find out what really happened...Shocked and disgusted, he matured in an instant, never again enjoying the naivity of youth. Because the answer for the god question isn't much about god. Sure, god might be up there, all powerfull, all knowing, watching us as we wake up and go to sleep, imparting his light with us, surrounded by other celestial bodies on the sky frame - the true pantheon. But down here, on the earthly plane, the answer to the god question is much more uninspiring, much more trivial, and also much more disturbing, from a certain point of view: It's a goat. *you can delete the text, i doubt there's a universe where anyone would publish this; but, in my defense, the bible has been reprinted for thousands of years.
  19. Ok, we'll do this around 8 pm tomorrow
  20. Anniv crits, gold...still tbd.
  21. We invite you to an audition for adventure! Jason, a well-known hero, will set sail for the east, on the lookout for Miroku. (Jason, a handsome, brave, powerful and generally awesome hero, will be played by me. Hm? What do you mean, "MD's population must be really low?") But for the mysterious East he will need on his ship the presence of tge avatars of the seven lucky gods, as a sort of talisman. So he is looking for strong fighters, rich patrons, skilled artists, experienced sailors, cooks, priests and joyful grasans. This is a roleplay event, no preparation needed, just come over and have fun. You will have to make the judges believe you can fulfill your role as avatar of one of the seven lucky gods. Your past deeds, your current items, you can use all that and much more to show off. Now, i would like to know when is the most convenient time for all who want to participate, so please post here an hour and a day (preferably this weekend)

Interesting. That was an item, and a curse, what i was thinking about was a creature, and a disease. However, i wasn't proposing a loss of stats for the sake of it, but rather a transfer of stats into the - let's call it - nosos. That creature would ultimately manifest into the realm and could be fought/killed. (I got the idea from a show)
