Okay. I've petitioned chewett to set up a separate forum for the awards comittee, (Which currently consists of...me) So we'll see what happens from there. It'll be easier for me to keep everything in the same place and have separate votes for things and a place for categories, a place for nominations etc. Garg. Category suggestions will close on Friday 21st of november. Nominations will then start, they will end on the 6th of december. Then there will be a voting period between the 6th and the 19th of december. The results will be announced in a big party somewhere in MD (not sure where this will be, but i'm hoping to get mur's support in this to make it a really big event). The party will be held on Sunday 23rd of december. Is this date okay for everyone? If not I'll host the event between christmas and new year. Garg.

Okay so here's my idea. It's coming up to the end of the year and I think that it might be nice if we host some sort of 'MD awards' like the oscars or somthing. Maybe some of the Avy guys could draw up some awards and there could be a small stat boost to category winners. what I want to know here is whether you think this is a good idea, what your ideas for categories would be (They don't need to be serious as such, as long as they are fair) Some of my thoughts were: Best RPC Best LHO Best Quest Weirdest quote (Sponsored by Yami No Sakura) Award for outstanding services to MD (MD's equivalent of the lifetime achievement award) Most convincing alt These are just some ideas Any others are welcome. Okay here's my thoughts on this. I'm actually not keen on the message cloud. But I do like the idea of the tags, my only beef with the tags is that they should show up in separate sections in your mailbox, e.g. once you set the tags there should be a button for each one like quests questions etc. That way it's easy to sort messages by their tags and you could see which ones are new in a specific tag. The reason I wasn't talking about reality is because I was not using the terms that mur did, I was using the definitions that mur did. I think this is where the confusion comes from.

Manu I agree but due to the way i've been taught I almost always feel the need to explain complex things like this in a very wordy manner (Padding out word limits on essays etc) I also like GG's examination of the concept. If you are looking for a short explanation then I think that GG worded it perfectly. However as a scriptwriter (Not professional, more's the pity) I know how important it is to sift out the good ideas from a piece. But at the same time I find it very difficult to get rid of ideas and the reason my post (or essay if you prefer) was so long was I thought it better to be thorough in explaining all the possibilities of the theory before attempting to summarize it. It seems I got so carried away with my writings that I actually forgot to summarize it so I shall try below (though I doubt it will be as good as GG's): Reality is my page, Personality the verse upon it.

I'd like to offer my services for Writing. I've got a history of Scriptwriting, and i've always had positive feedback whenever i've written stories or poems. Hi Mur I think what you are trying to say is an opposition of perspective. Subjective is acting on your own opinion (The opinion of the subject) Objective is acting for the whole (Acting for the objective) It is my belief that you can be an objective person who acts in a Subjective way, you can act for the good of the group, and if your opinion is matching with that of the majority you can also benefit yourself so if you believe the same as the group you MUST be acting subjectively as it is also your opinion. But it is also possible to act subjectively in a group situation where your opinion does not match the majority of the group, if you begin working objectively towards a common goal, you could actually work off your own opinions in order to satisfy your own goals. As an example, objective/subjective is used a lot in advertising, in order for the product to be successful the advertisers have to think in terms of 'what message will our product put out', this is the objective, and also in terms of 'how will our target audience receive this', this is the subjective. This raises the question 'which is the correct way to think?' well it seems that over the many years of advertising, it is the products (and the people behind them) that managed to find a balance between the two. The same is true in society, There is the group, the objective, that produces the society's 'majority', 'the norm' if you will, and sometimes it is necessary to conform to the majority but it is the characters who break away from this and seek to think subjectively who add variety to a society, the crux of the matter comes when you look at the balance. Too many objectives, the society can become stale and bland, no new ideas, always conforming. Too many subjectives and the society would be come anarchic. Thus a balance between the two ideologies is necessary in order to bring balance to a society. With regards to your idea of Realism vs personality: The two are somewhat interlinked as it is the personality of people that shape the reality we see. As Glor stated, reality is a mere perception, it is based on our daily interaction with the world and how we are interacted with by others, this is why people have various viewpoints on the world, some are optimistic and positive, others are pessimistic and negative. But this throws up the question of Does Society (reality) Shape us (Personality) or do we shape society? (These do have specific two word terms but i can't remember them off the top of my head) There are few answers to this but that does not mean it is easy to come to a conclusion. Some argue that reality shapes us - For example we see something on TV and because of that we go out and buy the product (This is particularly evident in clothes, if you see someone in a magazine wearing something and think 'I like that' then go out and buy it) Others argue that we shape reality - Those clothes in the previous argument must have come from somewhere, somebody created them, and the idea was directly from someone's brain,if their product has enough of an impact then it has the power to shape reality, a great example of this would be the PC, the PC shaped reality by allowing people a new way of thinking with regards to calculation (In the early days) and now the way we think about information exchange (with the internet) These are both valid arguments but society is once again based on a balance between these two, people shaping reality come up with ideas that revolutionise, other people buy into the product (or even just the idea of the product) which means their individual reality is shaped and after the product has been inducted for some time, it becomes part of reality and begins to shape us. The theory behind this is that it can be compared to the earlier arguments, the people who shape reality are the ones who think subjectively, those who are shaped by reality think objectively. So as you can see, society needs a balance of subjective/objective but it also needs a continuing loop of People shape reality/reality shape people, this is how the human society has always worked and in order to continue this chain must be kept up. However there is now the idea that it is becoming harder and harder to shape society as more and more things are being invented. So when there are no advances to be made that shape society, surely there is no way for society to shape us. These are my thoughts on Manu's debate. What do you think of this? You buy a plant from the garden centre to stand outside your back door and work as guard for 'House, Hidden Exit' You wonder why A (frankly awesome) Game developer has branched out into confectionery when you spot a pack of Murray mints. I agree Manu, it is the players that make the game good...But it is you who brings all the separate elements together and makes the game great. You say it's all about the community but who made the community possible in the first place? THE MIGHTY MANU! You say you are a web developer, artist etc. But what you have done is brought together what I see as one of the most intelligent, cultured bunch of players on the internet, the best writers, the most talented artists and the best developers out there and it was you who made all this possible. There aren't enough words to describe how highly I regard you and the work you have put into this and I think we all owe it to you to get the most out of your amazing creation and to put to put into it as much work as we can, but I realise it will never be as much as the work you put in yourself. All hail mur and his fantastic Magic Duel. (Also I think the festival should celebrate mur as much as if not moreso than the RPC/PWR thing)

Don't know if these have been done: You know you've been on MD too much when: At christmas the baby jesus gets Gold, Frankinsence and Mur. You appear four or five times in Yami's famous quotes list. You frisk people for their personal papers (You know they've been playing it too much if you find them) Mundane tasks become 'quests' (I recently did a quest to have a shower) You wonder why the archivist has branched out into indigestion tablets when you see 'Rennies' You see Jewellers as Duellers. You go round asking people for inner magic pages If someone annoys you, you begin to hear them saying 'quaaaac, riiibiiiiiiiit ribbit' You cut yourself and you sit there shouting prot-heal at it. After realising that doesn't work, you seek out morrel...Instead of Plasters. When you wake up in a bad mood, you refer to it as your alt. The tale of the walker of words From a young age he was able to hear the whispers. Even then was he plagued by the voices, yet he did not understand. They spoke to him constantly, throughout the day and night, when people were talking to him all he could hear were the whispers behind their words, as he grew up he slowly began to understand more and more about the voices yet he still did not know why they had chosen him, or what the purpose for what he would be used, but the more they spoke to him, the more of the voices he could understand. One day whilst exploring the lands in and around Marind Bell, he came across a traveller, and when this traveller spoke, the voices stopped, he could understand everything the traveller said. This confused him, why could he understand this one lone soul? Where was the traveller from? Where was he headed? All the traveller said to him was “our paths will cross again” His head started to hurt as the traveller walked away and in trying to follow the traveller he could feel his legs going from under him and slowly he fell to the ground. Upon awaking he found himself in the relative safety of Wind’s Sanctuary, he wondered how he got there, but there was something much more important that immediately sprung to his mind, where was everyone, the sanctuary was completely deserted save for himself, even the voices that had plagued him could not be heard. How could this be? He was very disorientated and assumed that the silence was a side effect of this, but then a loud booming voice came out of nowhere. “The words you hear inside your head are the whispers of those around you, even in your sleep you hear their dreams” The voice continued to explain “The reason you could not hear the voices when you spoke to the traveller is because he spoke the truth” You must find the traveller again and employ him into your service…. After this meeting he picked himself up from the sanctuary floor and set off on his search for the traveller, after many days of searching he found the traveller in one of the corridors of the MDA lands and after explaining his situation the traveller said “I knew you would come again to see me but I was unsure of your purpose, I am sure you have made the right decision, these are times of great uncertainty I will join you and help you find others like me, as you will present an unseen force on these lands” This brings us to present events and the voices still plague him but has recruited a team to help him understand and filter the voices. He has been plagued by voices his entire life, now he’s going to do something about it, who is this soul who hears the whispers? He friend, is me, Gargant – The walker of words.

Here's my idea dst How about some sort of access to RPC quests via the RPC list down the side so that we can have access to them even when the RPC is offline. I know i've found it frustrating to have to find an RPC only to find they are offline. We have that already. But congtraz! You are the first that does what I have asked all the players to do:post your new ideas here so we can add a feedback or a conclusion to it after it is debated on the separated topic. Thank you!
