  1. In the field of online gaming, Magic Duel does an exceptional job of drawing in female players. But within the realm, Golemus G. seems to be a throw-back. When I look Golemus, I think of crazed sports fanatics, team warriors, and an agressive drive for power and dominion -- in short the epicenter of an epidemic of testosterone poisoning. Perhaps at some point, the lack of female players reduces the interest of others to join and causes a run-away effect. On the other hand, if opposites attract, this concentration of studs should bring in inquisitive females... So what's the deal? Is what GG doing just disgusting, or are women treated as second class citizens, or what? Our inquisitive readers want to know. If you can find some female players in GG to interview, or at least one, you could write the story of a female insider's perspective of GG. ================================================= This space is reserved for the first/best insightful story selected that addresses the above topic in an entertaining yet legally defensible way. 2. There are people with weather spells. I think it would be cool if they triggered more than that little thing in the trigger box...
  3. Can the offenders go back and correct their omission of a reason?
  4. The Wind and Rain Pub in Wind's Sanctuary was once the most hopping and deeply developed social gathering place in the realm. Now it is mostly a place to sleep in safety. Windy's twin sister Sagewoman runs the Inn in the DQ where morning coffee is served with royal pastry baked by Firsanthalas himself. I've seen Phantasm brooding alone over his ale in the Pub in the far east with the very long name. The Cake Eaters have begun a regular picnic circuit, and I have witnesses some very hot-summer-day blanket feasts underneath the Willow tree. For those of you who like witty conversation over tea and crumpets - what are the choices? Our readers want a review. ============================================= This space is reserved for the first/best insightful story selected that addresses the above topic in an entertaining yet legally defensible way. 5. There are many facets to this game. You have to listen to your feelings and decide which appeals to you the most, then follow it as far as it will take you. If a second facet jumps up and grabs you, then so be it. My analysis of the different facets that might appeal to a player.... Fighting Creature Collecting Witty chatter with friends over cake and tea Puzzles and quests - solving and building them - this may take the "party game" approach or the programming/coding direction Team building/sports - alliances Political machinations - like the current brew-ha-ha over training techniques and the mp3/february debates Alliance/lands politics - power struggles and balance Creative writing of poems, songs, stories Dress-up, formal serious role-play, rituals Trying to get inside Mur's head, spiritual symbology Paying back to the game - a functional role like LHO, newspaper, etc. Trading - buying and selling stuff for profit Fighting for truth and justice if you think some group (like mp3's, for instance) is being mistreated. Land exploration - seeing if you can get into every corner of MD eventually Personal vendettas against people you think are evil or stupid Playing the part of Santa Claus/Easter Bunny/Tooth Fairy to give others joy What else have I missed? Debating just for fun (thanks Kafuuka) If you can find your heart, I and many others will help you figure out how to chase after it. Don't give up until you've considered and rejected everything on this list....
  6. Check out the new face and function of the Legend Speakers forum. http://magicduel.invisionzone.com/forum/181-legend-speakers/

  7. Events in Necrovion have begun to sound like a Groucho Marx routine. Who's on first? Queen Peace had passed the crown to Jester some time ago. This year saw a pass of the crown to Pamplemousse, then a pull-back to Jester followed by the institution of the first formal Rebellion in MagicDuel. Mur even created new rules to deal with this situation. We also had a take-over of a Necrovion alliance by someone who booted all players including the former Queen herself. Our readers want more. Can you write the story that puts all this in perspective? ============================================= This space is reserved for the first/best insightful story selected that addresses the above topic in an entertaining yet legally defensible way. 8. With any change of leadership comes a refinement and restatement of purpose for an alliance. Here is my view. Legend Speakers are not so much neutral as being dedicated to the healthy balance and growth of the realm as a whole. We will champion the underdogs and be advocates for truth and justice as the culture of the Magic Duel realm develops into the future. Individuals within Legend Speakers are encouraged to pursue their selected "Cause Celeb" and "Interest Focus". Ideally, each land should be assigned an Envoy to work closely with them in glorifying their particular culture and achievements. This cannot be done impartially, but must be done with passion. However, all Legend Speakers must be capable of acting with professional balance and neutrality when called upon to act as representatives of the Alliance, or of the Magic Duel Archives as a whole. Our overall mission is to breath life and color into the realm, glorifying (or vilifying) the events of the day. This can be done in many different ways. To the traditional services of creative writing of stories and songs, and work with Lands or Players to express themselves in papers and position statements, we wish to add an emphasis on sponsorship of events and creation of quests that add excitement to the realm. Please view Legend Speakers as a resource group that can be called upon to make your event a success. Recruitment is open for any who show both creative talent and professionalism in their dealings in the realm.
  9. For the most part, posts should be made in appropriate sub-forums, each of which has its own editorial policy. If your post will not fit those categories, post here and send a suggestion for a new category.
  10. This is the place to post articles of a more factual nature, including political commentary and analysis. This is our vehicle for highlighting the political and social activities in the realm, in pursuit of the Legend Speakers mission to breath life and color into the realm, by glorifying (or vilifying) the people and events of our time. The more you post, the more chance you have of being noticed and rewarded.
  11. This is the place to post things of a more fictional nature, or things of lasting literary value. The more you post, the more chance you have of being noticed and rewarded.
  12. This is one place to advertise upcoming events, and get them out on the forum. This may get into details of the Big Stuff, or just topics or details for regular Storytelling gatherings or the like. Organizers and creators of Events are encouraged to use this sub-forum freely as a marquee, posting links of ongoing interest to people; however this should not be a substitute for Mood Panel, Quest Pages, and other parts of the forum. If it doesn't fit anywhere else, put it here!
  13. This is the place for ongoing dialog and planning about what Legend Speakers should be doing. Broadly, we strive to use the Storytelling arts to inspire and liven up the Realm. We care about the impact we make on the future, the meaning and vision in the stories, as well as the lessons learned from the past, and generally leave the recording of the dry dusty facts to the Archivists; more analysis and insight rather than bulk data. The 'envoy' concept is dead, but people from all Lands and Alliances are encouraged to join in and/or support this effort for the good of all. Such 'adjunct' participants obviously may have a Land bias, but bona fide members of the LS Alliance must remain scrupulously neutral.
  14. My first $40 was for me, then next $100 for MD, the last $100 for prizes to give out. To put supporters on even footing with the brillient poor, give timbola tickets for wp's earned as well as credits bought.
  15. A decade ago I tried to get my boys interested, with limited success. I even had a chunk of time on my hands once and built a space-bug army that was inspired by a mix of Heinlein's Starship Troopers and Asprin's Bug Wars. Followed the warhammer rules for the bug army, of course. Wood, glue, paint.... I eventually gave it to my nephews, since my boys now couldn't care less about warhammers. Sigh.
  16. Stuffed Mushrooms From a couple dozen mushrooms, pull the stems out of the caps, and cut a little bit of the lip of the caps to make nice "cups. Slice the stems & trimmings into little disks that crush easily. Mix roughly equal amount of stems, mayonaise and crumbled up crackers (prefer Ritz) and mash & stir until everything is broken up well. Slowly add as much red pepper (cayenne, paprika, whatever) as it takes for you to taste it. It will get stronger when cooked. You can put a touch for color on top later too. Put all the caps on a metal tray and fill each with the mix. Bake on something like 350-400 F (177-205 C) until the mushrooms start to get soft (maybe 15-20 minutes). The more you cook, the more disgusting they look, but the better they taste! Yumm!

  18. I have complex sleep apnea. When my snoring got bad enough, my wife made me go get evaluated and now I sleep with a CPAP/ASV machine - Boy! what a difference it made in terms of getting deep restful sleep. The other item was getting rid of caffeine - I used to get up as many as 12 times a night to pee. No longer. The remaining dragon to kill - too much on the mind - is solved by making a list of all the things I want to remember to do tomorrow. With that "accomplished" I can sleep without worrying about things left undone today, and wake up with a sense of purpose.
  19. I think the systems should be more flexible and in the hands of the players. Things like alliance structures and bonuses, and who "owns" a particular bit of land etc. This means more coding and systems, but more power in the hands of the players. That's what I call automation, but apparently not what others do.
  20. Let me observe that it would be VERY hard to lead an alliance as MP6. MP6 can't worship for loyalty, and has restricted fighting opportunities..... Mur's suggestion would change that equation.
  21. Okay, let me see if I can fix my "very wrong" post.... 1. Mur wishes to be player (with unusual powers) shaping the culture of the Realm. 2. Game-level issues are to be dealt with by the council and/or Rendril(code) and/or Chewett(forum). 3. In-game civil issues are to be dealt with by the Kings and other community organizations. Have I got this correct now?
  22. I did not know that loyalty dropped, but 50 points is almost nothing..... I know of at least 3 instances of unexpected leadership changes in recent times .... (Archives, Woodcutters, Necrovion Sentinels) Yes, I'm concerned about hostile take-overs ....
  23. Maybe you know a way to check the loyalty of a non-allied player before you invite them into an alliance - just in case they might have enough loyalty to take over the leadership slot. Maybe you don't. I didn't, so I set up a clickie for this purpose. If you are concerned, ask your candidate to go to the special tile to the west of the Fountain of the Lost Path (MDA garden) and click on this "Loyalty Touchstone". (Password: Look) Then you can get a third party confirmation of their claimed loyalty score. That is, if you trust ME...
  24. I have 3 remains age 21. What are they worth to you?
  25. You can't know that a life will be worthless into the future like that. No crystal balls, sorry.
