  1. I'd give 1 gc.
  2. Both rocks west of GoE say "- (1 ap)" if you hold the mouse over them. They do not actually charge ap to access them, of course.
  3. It is generally not a public theme, sorcery of the dead. Necrovion seems to be your best lead in general, and there I can't help you. The "death" of a torch bearer is of a peculiar nature, which Mya Celestia experienced at the hand of Ivorak's item, and may not be what you need .... I would point out a few items of realm architecture, however.... 1) Aramors are soul-less bodies, Barren Souls are bodi-less souls. Assume they were sundered..... Somebody did it..... Were these the Berserkers, who were to fight against Necrovion? And where do tormented souls and soul weavers fit in this equation...? 2) Read the inscription at the bottom of the scene at the Willow, and see if that suggests anything to you...
  4. Thank you for that story, Rask. It deserves more than a pickle, but that is all I have to give. I will leave the slot at the top open for a story on current events.
  5. My clues are in the papers in the Study Room, not the books in the Index Room. Password "FyrdsWords". All four are different.
  6. The times up through Peace are a very different story from the current events. I would be happy to see both stories printed up for people to read and learn from.
  7. If the pray button were higher on the page within accomplishments, it would save me scrolling down to it for every hit of the button.
  8. Primary colors for pigments, as in paint, are red, blue, yellow. You know, red plus yellow makes green.... etc. Primary colors for making color negatives (as in film photography) are the opposite, green, orange, and purple. So a green filter plus an orange filer only lets through yellow.... LED's & TV phosphors follow a bit different rules too, green, blue, red mixing to give cyan, magenta, and yellow. This actually works due to the fact that the cone cells in your eyes are maximally stimulated by these 3 "primary" colors of light. Then your brain interprets color based on ratios of stimulation of those cone cells -- but only if you don't get too close and see the individual pixels. An earlier post did allude to what I was touching on in the physics - is red a reference to the color of the light itself, or to the fact that a red object absorbs everything except the red, which it reflects? You can also have scattering effects in the sky - the blue is scattered, the red plows through, making blue skys and red sunsets. Then it depends on the ANGLE OF VIEW.... I won't even get into holograms....
  9. How about making it a special spell or something instead of system-wide? DST needs something to spend all those wp's on....
  10. I'm sure our readership would STILL be interested in a background story, and update on current events.
  11. I don't usually get into these philisophical discussions, but somebody mentioned quantum mechanics.... ("I have a degree in X" -- PhD in P. Chem, and I have been a professor and I have taught graduate level QM, and I'm a member of multiple boards but not of anything here.). I just wanted to point out that red has different physics depending on whether you are talking light or objects. The color wheel for mixing is very different if you use pigments or if you are mixing pure light. And yes, chair and stone are both verbs. And yes, we as humans will keep making up new meanings to our grunts and whistles. It's all in whether or not you have a meeting of minds - concerning which you can be sure that if you do, it is transitory and fragile.
  12. The pickle point system is explained on my Q doc and is used for rewarding my quests and riddles, and for finding bugs in my code. 3, 6, 9, or 12 pickles gets rewards of coins, creatures, etc. in increasing value up to 5 credits or 1 gold for 12 pickles. One pickle can additionally be awarded for simply participating in chat and asking for it. I keep records of pickles awarded in off-line format. I welcome input added to a thread to add tips or new dimensions that would be helpful to those interested in the story, or writing it. I'm asking people NOT to start a new thread in The Tabloids without consulting with me. Obviously writing style is a major issue here, and I've already got my fingers burnt on that score....
  13. Replacing apostrophe with ^ doesn't look too bad, and doesn't get the escape thingy.
  14. Laphers has recently taken over the lead loyalty position in the Woodcutters guild. Who is this new leader, and where will he be taking the guild? Can someone close to the topic tell us more? ============================== This space reserved for the selected story, payment terms as usual.
  15. Lifeline was said to be an awesome fighter in the early days, which lead to his election as King of Marind Bell. Later, he was seldom seen outside Wind's Sanctuary, and it was RUMORED that he was nursing war wounds (balance issues & potential stat damage). Recently he locked horns with Higher Powers, apparently over issues of the powers of Kingship vs. the powers of those above them. There is now discussion of his successor, and he has referred to himself as having failed as a character. Can someone who knew Lifeline through this entire time chronicle the rise and fall of this mighty figure? ====================== This space reserved for the selected story, to be paid per the usual terms.
  16. Okay, the concensus is that this one really missed the mark. My apologies, I did not wish to offend. I erroneously thought Akasha, being a lawyer mainly visible on the forum, was in the Tribunal, and Indyra I had not seen in a very, very long time. This topic is withdrawn/closed.
  17. The announcement: As per Loreroot King's request, The Savelites alliance has been disbanded. This being the second time it gets disbanded, the alliance is considered now dead. It will never be used again. Anybody care to take a crack at chronicling these important events of our times? ===================== This space reserved for accepted story, payment terms as usual.
  18. Curiose - private PM. Chewett, of course you have the right to disagree. I'm merely trying to understand which parts you are having problems with. The Tabloids thing is just one of many things that I am doing, and it is not at all integral to, or representative of, Legend Speakers as a whole. And I wanted to make sure you were reacting to what I actually wrote, not what Curiose seemed to think I wrote....
  19. Sorry, are you reading my post or Curiose's? She and I seem to be on different planets here.... I am just sitting back in stunned amazement at her rampages. And searching for those personal communications I supposedly ignored. And I stand by my position that you can't write about something if you have no passion for it. That's rather different from going to war. The Envoy system was one hope of allowing passionate writing while maintaining over-all guild neutrality, but that's not working either, as Curiose got herself kicked out of Necrovion.
  20. Deleted - new plan.
  21. Shadow, if I hear a twisted rumor, I am going to ask people to find out the truth about it, not bury it. I welcome you and others joining me in the quest for truth and the bigger picture. Since we have yet to have a single story submission, it is too soon to know whether this process is going to work. That is the "experiment" - can my admittedly provocative inquiries generate enough interest for people to wake up, investigate, and actually write stories?
  22. If Jester wishes to give wp codes to different quest builders depending on who will be allowed to participate in the quest, that is his right, but it should be clearly decided/agreed up front. To withhold a wp to be awarded AFTER the quest has been run, just because of who actual won, would be very bad form indeed. (Reply to Kafuuka below - I was not aware of this happening, but see DST's post below. Jester seems to be on the right path there, but I felt some clarification was in order, languages being what they are).
  23. Mur has taken a strong stand against created or artificial “Ancient Legends”, insisting that we should instead chronicle the actual events of our time, and actions of actual characters. 90++ % of the new players never learn about what goes on in Magic Duel. They get bored and leave. What people are doing IS Magic Duel. Shining a light on their deeds and misdeeds, sometimes applauding, sometimes booing, sometimes laughing in delight or in ridicule, is not “stirring the pot” or “rumor mongering”. This is writing about things that actually happened, that should not be hidden away in dark corners. And I am asking for INSIGHTFUL stories, not one-sided ones. Any good reporter knows the difference between rumor and fact. Rumor is what tells you something out there is happening. Fact is what you find, and leads you to the real story – hopefully and especially including the “why”. I am offering story assignments (with rewards from my pocket) based on the merest suggestion that there might be a story somewhere. It would be ridiculous to think Legend Speakers has a monopoly on wisdom and perspective, or that 1 or 2 of us can chronicle the deeds of the 200,000 player ID’s that have passed through the realm. My dearest hope is to inspire others, many others, new or veteran, to take up these assignments and uncover the actual truth. Yes, I have adopted an extreme style in the EDITORIAL voice, which should differ from the voice of those with the actual byline. The adventure log is dead, the newspaper is dead, Magic Duel is in survival mode and hurting. Why? It always boils down to lack of interest and involvement. This editorial style is calculated to generate the maximum interest and excitement about what is actually happening in Magic Duel. For better or worse, all we can say about Magic Duel is that “it is what it is”. Unless people are excited and engaged, it will continue to diminish. (The game improves, its financial prospects do not). And as with all things, The Tabloids will either change or die. All of life is an experiment, like it or not. The Tabloids are just one finger on the hand that is Legend Speakers, and does not define the alliance. However, each finger on that hand is directed in a different way, to the mission that I see, which is to bring Magic Duel fully to life for ever more people. That is my goal. Reader response is now evenly divided at 4 vs. 4. If you wish to see Magic Duel grow as I do, help me refine my initiatives in a constructive way. Thank you.
  24. For now I will just say I've gotten multiple reactions on both ends of the spectrum to this little experiment.
  25. Thank you King Jester. With that kind of offer, the standard for "legally defensible" just went up.
