People in the News

about the people shaping the realm

  1. Started by Fyrd Argentus,

This is the place to post articles of a more factual nature, including political commentary and analysis. This is our vehicle for highlighting the political and social activities in the realm, in pursuit of the Legend Speakers mission to breath life and color into the realm, by glorifying (or vilifying) the people and events of our time. The more you post, the more chance you have of being noticed and rewarded.

  2. In the 17th year of the realm, there emerged a figure that was likely to become a character of MD legend. They did not disappoint. Aksel has extraordinary energy and insatiable curiosity, and this led to being launched into notoriety, just a year after arriving in the realm. When Aksel learned of the Land Weapons, and the trail of bread crumbs that Mur had left, there was nothing for it but to try to ring Marind's Bell. An unlikely collection of motley characters was recruited to fill out the numbers required for this adventure. I, Fyrd Argentus, class clown, amateur musician, alchemical experimentalist, and tabloid journalist, was approached to join the vent…

  4. HOLIDAYS IN THE MAGIC DUEL REALM In Magic Duel, it's not generally who you can beat, but what relationships you can forge. People drift away to their other pursuits in the RL dimensions, but come back to Magic Duel to be with friends (or perhaps, duel with their nemesis). This is especially true around holiday times. The two biggest holiday times are Christmas and MD's Birthday. At these times, old familiar faces return and our population at least triples! Christmas is what you might expect - presents, cookies, and candies for all. A decorated tree, festivities, and the only chance to catch some of the more rare creatures - the Nutcracker, the Tamed Reindr…

  5. While her alt was a good friend and benefactor as well (I did not know it at the time), it was clearly in her character as Windy that I was most influenced in Magic Duel. She ran Windy’s Pub, an establishment inside Wind’s Sanctuary in Marind Bell. In this place people came to have fun. This was a sanctuary, so no combat, no silent grinding, but instead there was a great deal of verbal sparring. She kept in character as a barkeep, and games and brawls broke out in her establishment. Everyone seemed to come there and get more deeply into their character than anywhere else. She showed me what it was to role-play in the MD realm. Not just in the pers…

The following ideas might be true, but there is no evidence that they are. They are presented for your amusement - reader beware. Please add your own to this growing list. 1. The Multi-Window alert is actually an advanced level spell used by certain players to prevent attacks on them, and to freeze players in place as they breeze past. 2. The low-grade avatars you see in the shop were NOT selected randomly, but were chosen by a secret committee that is trying to guide your role-playing development. 3. Alpha-zero is actually a code for, "I don't like your work". 4. Your regen timer display is actually manipulated by an advanced spell used by certain players tryin…

  7. A few weeks ago (well, a few is vague enough I guess to prevent any remark on how slow I am).... a few weeks ago I started interviews with some current and past Necrovion citizens. Of course, slow as I am, nothing was published yet, but now time has come and you will find in this thread what I have gathered. Allright I must confess: interviews quoted here are from November 2011. That's not that old, is it? I was intrigued by the situation in Necrovion, following Jester's actions and punishment. I will not summarize those facts, as it has been done recently by Pea…

  8. Pipstickz recently assumed the leadership of this ancient alliance of Marind Bell, and ejected all members. Your humble reporter asked for an interview. Pip declined to answer questions related to the takeover itself, but gave the following responses. FA: What is your opinion of the prior leadership? Pipstickz: From what I saw, there was little leadership within the alliance, it was all based on past decisions that had already been made. That's not necessarily a bad thing, though, as it works much more efficiently than relying on a single leader, and neither is it necessarily true, because the inner workings of alliances are often kept to those within the alli…

  9. Started by Fyrd Argentus,

This is a record of those that have helped me in building up power to fight and/or appease the spirits in the realm. Each I have repaid with an augmentation of their own magical abilties (wp). I stand ready to similarly teach new magic (wp) to those who push the frontiers further than any of these heroes have done. But of course, I can only help each person in one step forward in the growth of their magical powers - I can only teach you so much.... Three lordly gentlement first helped me get attuned to the magic in this realm, and I shared a bit with them in return. These were Lightsage, Mighty Pirate, and Clockmaster. Their help let me tune in to the Lost Path. …

  10. My first article for the Legend Speakers was about the glass making. It allowed me to introduce some basic mechanisms of what a tool offers in Magic duel. The sand melter is transforming a ressource (sand) in a more elaborated ressource (glass) This second article aims to present another tool used to gather basic ressource: a Memory Stone detector. To build this article, I decided to make an interview with xrieg. xrieg is one of the 3 users who have been chosen to hold a Memory Stone Detector when they were introduced in the realm. I was both interested in what the tool technically allows (how it works), and what impact the tool may have in regards to the…

  11. My name is Passant the weak. I'm also known as the “Glass Expert”. I was given that title after being chosen to hold the very first tool in the realm that would produce Raw Glass. In this article, I will try to tell you more about Glass, and the way it is manufactured. Feel free to comment/correct what you read, if necessary. I am also open to any question you may have. Consider this article as my introduction as a new member of the Legend Speakers. My role will be to post articles about mechanisms, people, facts I consider of interest at the time I write about them... or that I will be requested to enquiry about. And yes, you, all, can request me…

  12. Started by Tipu,

Ho yes i am going to brag about the most beautiful and amazing place in the whole of MD - The JAIL. So whats so wonderful about it ? Tipu is going share inspiring Adventures of his Jail tours. Its completely nature-free place no trees no plants filled with disgusting carcasses odors. The art work is incredibly stunning filled with Darkness. Well there r *spoiler* scenes to roam around. Also have few cells which r designed only for VIPs, dare to enter one such Vip rooms at ur own risk. As u move around further deep, u will face ur fate yes its the Jail's main gate. Rumors say it holds the secret of the Prison Itself. Outside this main gate lies the Dark pit. Human body…

  13. Started by Fyrd Argentus,

Events in Necrovion have begun to sound like a Groucho Marx routine. Who's on first? Queen Peace had passed the crown to Jester some time ago. This year saw a pass of the crown to Pamplemousse, then a pull-back to Jester followed by the institution of the first formal Rebellion in MagicDuel. Mur even created new rules to deal with this situation. We also had a take-over of a Necrovion alliance by someone who booted all players including the former Queen herself. Our readers want more. Can you write the story that puts all this in perspective? ============================================= This space is reserved for the first/best insightful story selected tha…

  14. Started by xrieg,

There are two reasons I write this 'article': 1. immaterial for all I write below, 2. numerous complains from newer players that MD is fighting only, no NPC, and after full 5 hours playing some players still have stronger crits. Well, MagicDuel is not only fighting and patience is the major skill to master in the first few days. There are usually multiple quests and contests running - only one should make an effort to find them. In most games you just hack and slash your way to some checkpoint where something flashes and you know you will be rewarded for bringing or killing something. Well, MD has no quests of this kind. Quests and contests are advertised: 1. on the f…

  15. Started by xrieg,

After last batch of Mur's announcements it's clear that there is only one magical item left in the whole realm of MD - it's Curiose the Magic Mushroom. She is widely recognized as the best secretary Mur has ever had, with quality of service so amazing that the Santa Mushroom were recently given two helping elves, by names of apophys and Seigheart, to slow her down a bit with rewards delivery. Children must wait for their Christmas gifts full year - and Curiose could always deliver them within two weeks period - to big and small. Well... to big first, of course. She is a busy person, but also devoted teacher. She can take bours off her full schedule to give a lecture to…

It's difficult to be objective writing about close friend, regular sparring partner or (apparently) a family member. I won't even try - I begin this article with this disclaimer - and, dear reader, read further at your own risk. He is my child... or pup... I am a bit confused myself... To add to confusion my child is much older than myself - he came to the MD realm 928 days ago (344 active) comparing with my tiny 202. Consequently, as some people think a lot about life after death, whevever I think about Lone Wolf I consider life before conception. Personally I call Lone Wolf LWP - which is a briefing from his original name (lone wolf pup became Lone Wolf last MD Birthda…

  17. Started by Necromancer Mortis,

Mortis has been a familiar face in MD since 2008. Originally as green as it came when he started he hasn't changed much beyond Mind Power and has developed a standard anti-hero rp although he initially attempted to be something of a villain until he was reprimanded and threatened with banning. For a long time Mortis avoided alliances seeking to remain neutral despite invites to both Necrovion and Loreroot, despite this he later joined and became leader of the Woodcutter's Guild which he immediately converted to a socialist system which has since backfired due to a large number of it's members having either quit or spend most of their time idle. He is the current spokesper…

Most new players enter to this marvolus realm and stay there, going through story mode, batteling, Role playing, questing, and everything else this realm has to offer. After about a week, this player will start to wonder : "OK, I've seen the duel in Magic Duel (and it rocks!) but I haven't seen the magic!" a wiser player might answer : "this is because it is an advanced topic, and not meant for early stages." That is the simplest way to put it, for eventhough it is simple for someone to get it at this early stage, explaning the process and how it is needed and heat and how principles affect it... I will, disregarding how hard it may be, attempt to explain this. At first…

have you ever wondered why you could go all the way from the paper cabin to Fenth's pass with 0 ap, but can't cross Mirand Bell's gate or even go from one location to the other in the Tribunal even with 30 ap? the answer is simple. It is viscosity. First introduced in the announcments on 2011-06-30 07:32:15, Mur said : "NOTICE: This is a presentation of concept. The feature is implemented already but won't be activated till some fixes regarding papercabin/noob area are ready. In the places that it will start to be applied you will see viscosity value different from zero. For now all places have viscosity zero. Viscosity of a location determines the increase or drop in…

The Sparring Grounds, located at the Marble Dale Park, is the main training ground for MP3s learing the system. Established by Burns and Shadowseeker (mainly shadowseeker, as Burns says : "I did nothing, I just copied the rules to the signpost "), and maintained by no one, it follows the simple rule : ask before you attack by asking before attacking, that ensures that new MP3s will never suffer extensive damage, as, for example, being attacked with a too-strong ritual when they have one hundred percent of their vitality in their defenisve. The problem (mainly) is that not all people know the rules to follow, and some people know the rules, but simply do not follow them.…

  21. Started by Necromancer Mortis,

One of the longest surviving people in MD and most famous for founding 'The Wind and Rain pub' which rapidly became popular. Since then she has carefully nurtured the pub until it became one of MD's longest surviving traditions. Since it's founding Windy has moved the pub three times, whenever it was become constantly empty, the first move was to the Fenth's Press, the second to the Defensive Quarters in Loreroot, which Windy then became a citizen of. Finally though the pub moved back to it's original location in Wind's Sanctuary. Windy has since joined Marind Bell showing a great loyalty, if not to any land then to her pub. Windy is friendly enough as long as noone st…

Ailith is a former RPC and long term player who is well known for her part in all three wars. She started as one of the coorganisers of the Wind and Rain pub which acted as a meeting point for people to discuss and relax since then she has been very active excluding a brief hiatus in Year 6, organising a large number of quests and four (at the time of writing) festivals of fun. She is currently a member of the Tribunal Alliance 'The Seal of Six' and has previously been a member of the Necrovion Sentinels and the Dimensional Shifters. Friendly for the most part, AIlith is usually happy to help out new players and views the key thing for anyone in MD to understand is to,i…

Fyrd Argentus is a well known player in the MD realm, leader of the great Legend Speakers, and also a brilliant quest-maker. He always finds time to help anyone who asks for it, not to mention adding a little of fun to the thing (once when asked what a trigger was, he replied that it was what got released on the gun to make it shoot ^^). Whether you know him in-game as Fyrd, or as the 'old man with the flute' who was trying to beat the shadow army (and he has done so, but the future might change), or as the pickle master, you must have felt his great degree of care, care for the well being of those still new to the realm, and the caution with which he treats his adepts,…

Books store memories of the past, the brain stores memories, both true and imaginary, both sources are reliable, nearly never fading... however, a new 'memory-holder' has appeared, and it in the form of ... a stone??? Memory stones are now spread throught magic duel, and are being regarded as a recource. The can only be gathered in the precense of a Memory stone detector, that Mur has granted to two people (so far), they are : Aranna, and Lone Wolf. These memory stones do not hold regular memories, but rather, they hold memories of spells, accordint to Mur, the operation is described as such : "They work in the following way: If you have a memory stone, and a spell, yo…

The Golden Globe Gazebo, usually referred to as the GGG, was one of the many legendary fighting locations in all of Magic Duel. Basically it was usually referred to as a place where any person could get "infinite wins". It is one of the 4 Gazeboes of the MD Archives Gardens. The Golden Globe Gazebo had some rules for those who chose to fight in it, back in the day, they could be seen by clicking the support the Giant Golden Globe sat on, and they were, mainly : 1. All defensive rituals should be of ONE character that has a non-offensive ability 2. All Offensive rituals were those that could not harm the defensive rituals, so they could be, for example, an elemental o…
