  1. 3 months and I am calling an end to the Lost Path Treasure Quest as it stands now. It will be morphed and mingled with the Lost Path Shadow Army quest to form the foundation of the "Lost Path Adventure". You can continue to play the quest for pickles, but there will be pickle-free shortcuts to the treasures which are useful objects in the ongoing adventures. Taking the shortcut to a "copy" will NOT prevent you from finding the "original" later on for a pickle. All of the sites of the visions (this does not include the hut and the mirror yet) will be password-coded with the phrase "Look". Three players distinguished themselves in this quest and will be receiving wishpoints. Zleiphneir did best, with 8 of the 12 tasks completed. Kafuuka did very well, with 7 of the 12 tasks completed. Von Ungernsternberg completed 6 of the tasks, and in addition was first to complete the Lost Path Shadow Army Quest. Honorable mention goes to I-am-Bored who was first to find all 12 riddles, but only followed through on one of them. Ozzy is the only other player to complete a task. Congratulations to our three winners, and I will be awarding the wp's as soon as I get the codes from our Kings. Thanks to King Lifeline of Marind's Bell for providing 2 wp codes, and King Firsanthalas of Loreroot for providing another wp code.

  4. I'm not sure of anything anymore. McAfree was not certain either - labeled winhost merely "suspicious". But the computer is running better now with it. Only issue is new browsers opening up with advertising from time to time. Microsoft seems no longer to be offering updates to Windows xp. Suggestions?
  5. Well, it seems to be under control again. I tracked it down to the following.... My anti-virus cast aspersions on a little program called "winhost" and asked if I wanted to quarantine it. I said yes. I think that's when I started having the trouble, and occasionally had error messages pop up about "Generic Host Win32" crashing. Microsoft no longer seems to be supporting updates to Windows XP, so they were no help. I un-quarantined Winhost, and life seems good again. Time will tell.
  6. Well, it's more complicated than that. At one time, using Firefox, I watched cpu usage dance between 50-75 and spike up into the 90's, but no connection problem. Just now, I sacced a couple heretics and MD choked. I tried to load the scene a couple times, then fired up the monitors -- cpu usage is flatlined, occasionally spiking into the 40's. I switched to Internet explorer, and it says it can't even display the website. But I can see other websites. So, something I am doing is tripping a switch-off somewhere.....

Every time I hit max allowed heat either by sacrifice or by worshippers sending heat, magic duel freezes up and won't load the scene, no matter how many times I try, until an interval of time passes that suspiciously resembles how long it would take the heat to fall back in allowed range. I hate watching the little blue arrow go around and around to no end..... I do have the eroline device active. This is making MP6 unplayable, please make this an urgent concern.

  15. I have a coding problem (details below) I could solve with an infinite loop but that would not only be wasteful, it could also contribute to the internet delays we are experiencing. Are others already using this technique, and is that perhaps why we are seeing internet hangs? What I want to do is have the code progress to a point, wait for user input, then proceed. I have code with a "submit" type button in one clickie that has no reporting, which executes the entire page, sweeping past the null-entry of the submit button. When you hit it, the entire page of code executes again, this time using the entry. I have code with a "submit" type button in another clickie that has reporting. When you hit submit, it sends the report and the window basically crashes or freezes so you must F5 out. The red-flag solution is to have an infinite loop that keeps checking for user input. Only then does it move on. I guess a better solution when I figure out how to do this is to have code block A execute if entry is null, block B execute if entry by user. In the old days, mainframes had time-out limits to protect against infinite loops like this. Is this a genuine concern? Is this maybe why we are getting internet hangs - infinite loops waiting for user input on clickies?
  16. Clarifying hint given out today: The Lost Path Treasure quest is totally within public lands that anybody can get to. You need to follow the trail - the hut for background, the fountain for one of 12 visions (top 10 minutes of each hour), the initial contact by finding the spot, execute a task to be told the password to where the riddle is hidden, then solve the riddle for a password to a final spot where the treasure is hidden. And read all 4 pages of notes in the MDA for clues - new clues appear here. Also please note, we are coming up on 3 months old on this quest. Top 3 players have 8, 7, and 6 tasks complete out of 12. I have had to refresh passwords 7 times now. Soon I will tire of that and put the password "LOOK" on many of the initial contact scenes that currently don't need a password, so that the quest lives on without so much attention. If this happens, be forewarned....

  19. In the hut north of MDA, you need to read all the way down. Both quests are discussed. To get a weapon, you MUST say "talk" to the Willow's Shopkeeper. You must then scroll to the bottom of his speech and select one from each category, then hit the "hunt" button ONE time. At which point the radio buttons uncheck themselves. If you hit it again without re-selecting your choices, you just chose nothing. This weapon is good for ONE shot at Clash of Ages. Then you must return to willows to reload.

  20. New Quest! Fun! While technically a sequel to the Lost Path Treasure Quest, you do NOT have to do that first, and this is much, much easier. Something fun to do! It also starts by going to the hut north of Wind's Sanctuary for the story, and checking some info in the fountain of the Lost Path north of the MDA. You see your progress, and a vision of the marching Shadow Army. Because this is pseudo-weird-combat and we don't want to confuse the new players, you must go inside Willow's shop and "talk" (password) to the shopkeeper to select a special experimental weapon. You then go to the Clash of Ages and "hunt" (password) for the monster of your choice. The Shadow Army parade starts fresh every 30 minutes and you must jump out to attack at the right minute mark on the clock, with the matching weapon, to take out your targeted monster. Much easier quest, more for fun than anything, so prize is just 1 pickle for anybody who takes out the entire army, plus 5 credits to the first player to do it. Plus, as always, since code is always buggy, 1 pickle for the first report of each code bug (more severe than just a mis-spelling) found. Enjoy!
  21. I became a supporter ($100+) when, during the 5th birthday celebration, Mur mentioned that he didn't have funds in the coffers to pay a $35 server bill. And advertising is EXPENSIVE.
  22. Here's something - maybe it belongs under new ideas. Suppose you were to make the Kingship powers to be strictly derived from the consent of the ruled, in exchange for the benefits from belonging. Jailing powers over the ruled, going to the majority vote candidate, is already consistent with this. Say EVERYBODY gets one wp code per so many active days, but joining a land pools that resource under the leader. Say the house land bonuses come to any group depending strictly on citizen count (sort of the added synergy of interaction = [N squared minus N]/N). And so forth. You could juggle the rules just a little bit so that all the King's powers are either derived from their subjects, or are a pure administrative function. [Edit - oh, and you would have to allow anybody to form a "group" that could muster supporters. And you would have to have fights/contests over who "owns" each scene, with a handicap/feedback system that favors the smaller landholder.... Maybe even have some coop land ownership scheme..... add scenes with player count....] Would we be happy with the Kingship model then? I personally would find it more esthetically pleasing, but would we have a better game?
  23. @Kafuuka - I had heard somewhere that revenues were so poor that they were no longer able to pay for advertising. Perhaps I read too much into a comment dropped. Hard to know what is true from day to day. Anybody who knows care to comment?
  24. I am increasingly often gifting 5 credit packages as prizes, payments, etc. It is a hassle to do each one through the system, and might increase MD's transaction fees. How about an option to buy some number of 5-credit packages in bulk, with code numbers assigned so that we can transfer them later on, 5 at a time, to people.
