1. I think the user should flag their own entry (not kings). It should become invisible only until a Mod addresses the question, and edits it (or not) -- at which point it is treated as any other PL entry and could be edited by the author again, etc. Regarding english language skills of the moderators -- there are many of us linguistic types who would be happy to craft a euphemism for a mod seeking advise, once they identify a true problem entry.
2. A lot of things can be by surprise, but things like vet medals that honor a player's regular participation should NOT be dependant on winning the "time lottery".
3. I have been blessed by Mur with additional treasures of many types, including wish point codes, to continue making the realm a more exciting place. This is a limited supply, so you should always check with Royalty first for wish point codes. Failing that, however, please contact me if you need sponsorship for one of your quests. I will be particularly interested in supporting anything that adds depth and excitement to the realm, or enhances our community. So... let's party! p.s. - Can anybody help me break up big gold notes?
4. I have recovered much of the ground lost when the evil Queen and Princess blocked off my entrance to the Spirit Underworld. I have made contact with at least 15 of my lost creatures. Please, somebody go save them by "LOOK"-ing at the Labyrinth sign. Yes, I know, the evil pair have thrown up another barrier at the MDA gate. Many of you can't even get to the Labyrinth now. Try using a spicy pickle.... ASK!
5. A word alone should not be offensive. Yes, there are certain topics which are taboo in MD because of the younger minds about, and cultural issues. But talking ABOUT a "bad" word, and using it gratuitously as window dressing, are two very different things. A good rule of thumb is that any word simply included to add emphasis to a dull sentence by dragging in "cursing" overtones, is not really necessary, or in good taste. re: UK vs. America -- America is a very diverse place. We must also pick and choose how "hot" our language can be depending on the audience and setting. And WE assume that BRITS have more sensitive ears..... I'm guessing that having foreigners about puts either of us on good behavior.
6. Phantasm, your post is rather confusing on a sensitive issue. I do hope you are are not suggesting that victims of sexual harassment leave MD? Your post could easily be interpreted that way, and I suggest you clarify it.
7. Let me add a complaint about SilverTounge. The 100 point heat limit per step does NOT go up when this spell is used. I'm a pretty "brisk" fellow, and SilverTounge only increases my briskness less than 50%. I'm capped at 100 heat per scene without the spell, and capped at that same 100 heat per step with the spell. Older players tell me there did not used to be a cap. I was taken in by the spell description saying certain things WOULD happen to heat gain. Looks like I wasted a wp for this spell.....
8. The automatics will kick in and prevent certain kinds of transfers, based on IP. Of course, a third friend at a different IP solves that.... It seems to me that this is a case where "alt abuse" would be flagged only by human intervention, and you SHOULD be given an opportunity to prove that you two are not alts (via human contact). You might even wish to document something in advance to the council so that you are permitted in advance. Of course "should" and "will" have a lot of gray space between them. Good luck - blaze that trail for us!
9. You can document the events of the time. The document then becomes historic as well as the event.
10. Off wandering again. Probably back Thursday (EST-USA). Might find a magic portal or two to peek back at y'all while I'm out and about...
11. While it is unpleast for others, it does make sense that I, as a long-time MDA citizen can just walk through all those high-ap gates in MDA as if I had a key or something....
12. So, we quest coders just need to get busy and adapt! I was getting pretty bored with nothing else to do anyway.... (Back to the drawing board, keep smiling, don't panic, think happy thoughts, look for the silver lining, make lemonade from life's lemons, wear red so the blood doesn't show,......) ps. There are always pickles.... well, usually.
13. That too would be hilarious, CoS.... How about we play "guess who I am pretending to be?" Winner is whoever guesses the most correctly, over the course of the party.

I too am not in a position to judge the internal workings of the LHO system but I recognize this cannot be a democracy. Corporation maybe, with people answerable up the chain. Up until now I've seen no failure on Grido's part to deal with this very difficult job. The handling of the Phantom Orchid episode was a real prat-fall, as you should never, ever treat volunteer helpers that way. Everybody is watching and that public humiliation thing has obviously demoralized everybody. The ripples from this will echo as long as MD lasts, and this event did not add to the realm's longevity. People make mistakes. I'm only disturbed that Grido does not appear to be learning from this one - or even admitting it was one on his part.
15. The Clerk in the Far East had a very narrow escape from the evil Queen and Princess, who sealed off his office, shrank him to mouse size, and released a cat to chase him. I have found him a new home in exile, in the mouse's hole in Sage's Keep. He should be safe there.
16. The Fictionist Room has been closed (see announcements). I presume this is the work of the Evil Queen and Princess, trying to prevent us from thwarting their designs on the realm. I will be working to bypass this unfortunate event.... 90% of this quest still is open...
17. I think more could be done even in black & white to make them more readable. Headline/Bold the beginning of each attack and indent the rest of the "paragraph". There are many different ways you could code the color - many of which would be non-intuitive to some players, and confusing.
18. I think you mean "boost" not "boast". And do you mean $5 divided among the players online? Or did you really mean EACH? That WOULD destroy the MD economy.
19. For those of you working on the assignment for Mur.... He wants three columns - Coordinate - In - Out. "Out" means shortest path to the GoE. "In" means shortest path to the capital or center point. If you are out on some dead-end branch, both "in" and "out" will be THE SAME DIRECTION since whichever destination you are seeking, you have to go back to the main road first. "In" does NOT automatically mean the opposite of "out".
20. How about the day I discovered, after lots of work training, that I really didn't understand how imp and bp auras worked after all.....? Or the day that about 20 pages of data on my Spirit Underworld quest went over-size and I lost it? [Reply to C.o.S -- I still don't understand creatureboost either, but I thought I did and spent a lot of time training creatures to do things that it turns out they couldn't.... This was about when I stopped grinding... pure coincidence, maybe....]
21. Maybe EON should start running a protection racket - pay her routinely to avoid being attacked. She has the power - just hasn't asked for anything yet. That is how the mideval feudal system worked, isn't it? [Edit - oops, fixed gender reference - sorry.]
22. Is it not possible to send your current avy to the vault and not wear one at all? I never did this, but assumed it would work.
23. I define a coordinate as a text string @vx.'-'.@vy.'-'.@vz then use this as the index for an array which has the contents of the site. So if I look up @vc=array[above-text-string] and it is a not yet defined, i.e. @vc=="", does this create the storage space for it? I think I was creating datafiles every time somebody wandered into new empty spaces. A path out to 10-10-10 might take only 30 sites, but it "encompases" 1000 empty spaces.... btw - I actually stored the text string as data as well as using it as index value - so multiple fields in storage array. I got rid of a third field I didn't need any more. Now, I have another, different array that is just the list of coordinates and I can check to see if a new spot is "on the list" before trying to call up the stored site info.
24. I've learned some things from my memory-over-capacity fiasco, and my efforts to recreate data files from stored text files. Mostly you can read about the memory issues in the "questions" thread http://magicduel.invisionzone.com/topic/10543-mds-storage-over-capacity/page__pid__91932#entry91932 if you are planning on creating a huge or dynamic datastorage file. Other items of interest: If you read a string in from @content, it seems to pad it front and back with spaces. You need to use the function trim(@vs) to strip off those spaces. Setting something = null does not make it not exist. null is apparently then stored in that space. What you have to do is copy a list including nulls over into a new list, checking item by item and NOT transfering the nulls over.
25. Okay, maybe I didn't need to do this - maybe I did. Can anybody say whether accessing an index of an array in mds_storage -- WHICH HAD NOT PREVIOUSLY BEEN DEFINED -- reserves that spot in memory? I've fixed my code so it doesn't matter, along the lines I suggested above, but I'm sure we'd all like to know..... Anybody?
