How about this - viscosity builds up at some fixed rate, like now, but it goes DOWN whenever ap is used to overcome it. Once. So a +40 viscosity spot burns 41ap then it is cleared down to -1. Moving through a normal 1 ap space that is clear knocks it down 1 more viscoisty point each time anybody moves through -- forget this noise about once per hour.

Either 1) Mur will assign a land for balance purposes, 2) The activity will remain a capitalistic free-market competition, in which case there should be no guild, or 3) The players with the power will band together to make a defacto monopoly, in which case why should we deny them the rights to set up their own alliance, however and wherever they want? p.s. I voted for MDA as it is a functional fit, very esthetically pleasing, but you could argue lots of ways.... GG is the lab that cooks up new magical things...

Color mapsites green that have viscosity <= 0. Yellow means viscosity 1-20, red means 21-40 viscosity. Something like that. There is probably a better color scheme that won't conflict with the orange... Or you could have a toggle switch between two different views. Could be a higher level shop purchase.

Mur alone knows what will assail us next, as witness the unexpected arrival of viscous slime in the realm. But Mur, in his benevolent wisdom, had the forsight to provide the antidote for viscous slime - the Spicy Pickle. Just before the 6th Anniversary party, Mur visited me and bestowed upon me the means to turn my ordinary pickles into Spicy Pickles. I see now that he was providing for the future. As the crowd screams over every change that occurs in the realm, I thought everyone should know about this clear example - Mur does have a Plan -- have faith. Some side notes: As advertised: "This nasty little bundle of energy will make you hop on one foot, run in circles, flap your arms, and scream your head off, all at the same time. Very powerful, very dangerous - but very temporary." At this point, they are the only way that I know of to get into places like Knaty's Vacation House once the viscous slime reaches maximum thickness, as it is doing even now. Accordingly, I am taking steps to make them more available - they now trade for Pickle Points 1:1. However, as a limited-quantity consumable inventory item, they are hard to make, and I will only give these out to people who are going to use them while they are fresh. If you're traveling to the far east in search of spirits, a few spicy pickles is a must.

Just now, Knaty's vacation house, outside the arrow says 160-28 (negative viscosity) but upon entering, the screen says local viscosity is +34. I did get in on normal ap, so the former figure is probably what was executed.

Okay, turns out "end of July" is not convenient for me, so deadline is extended to August 15. All approved stories are posted in People in the News, save one. Just look for the newest ones. I think there are 3. One other story has been sent to me and I was confused as to whether they just wanted feedback, or were submitting it. It is acceptable, could be better - I gave some feedback -- we need to get it posted. That makes 4. Need to see at least 6 more.... I have not seen any stories that needed to be rejected. Good work!

I guess my MD experience is incomplete. I never got to see this beautiful "Under Construction" sign. Of course MP6 story mode flat doesn't exist.... yet? That was like climbing steps and expecting one more....

The bloodthirsty and/or befuddled noobs leave when they realize there are no explosions or splashes of blood. Those ones never get to the point of experiencing the magic system. I agree with Rhaegar, it's mostly a supply-side and integration issue.

So if you were to "curse" someone by giving them a spell that was a bit of a nuisance and a name like "a" that they couldn't change.... I better not suggest this one.... hmmm.....

If you're really up for it, a break-down by catagory with table of contents and chapters -- so somebody could read all about subject X if they wanted, subject Y if they were curiose, etc... Searching key words only goes so far...

Seems like spells used to be case-sensitive, but are no longer. At least the fails are happening in a case-insensitive way. Beware.

Spicy Pickles may be of service here, or if something gets gummed up really good. If Mur is listening, now would be an excellent time to adjust the number of these hot little guys allowed in the realm, as we discussed once upon a time.... Even 100 doesn't seem like it would be enough any more... To the Group - Do put up on the mood panel when a party is active - my erratic schedule will not permit me to plan around MD, but I am often available...

Viscosity in the labyrinth turns it into something of a death-trap for people who get lost.... I think it ought to have special rules... something that makes explore points more important than ap.....

Heat is the stuff being manipulated here. Principles are the tools used to do that. The specific collection and sequencing of words/thoughts/memory-images used to do that can use word-metaphors from many walks of life besides "spells". We could call them recipes, verses, stanzas, procedures, lyrics, vows, rites, vignettes, stories, tales, invocations, constructs, weavings, programs, scripts, subroutines, etc. Prayers and rituals bring in other meaning from MD or they would be on the list too. It seems to me that each magic culture/tradition would use a different set of words to describe what it is they are doing to manipulate and use heat. I refer you to Roger Zelazny's Madwand series - in which the protagonist has to learn how to do something similar without the benefit of a teacher. Is he manipulating threads, beams, flows, balls, tones, or what? The answer is -- all of the above, depending on circumstance. Different mindsets (principles) make different tasks easier or harder. His Dilvish the Damned series has sorcerers viewing spells (constructs that can be imbued with energy) on different "planes" wherein the construct appears different from different vantage points (principles?). And demons that live in these different energy planes can be summoned and put to work... I particularly like the cooking analogy in that an experienced chef will only follow the original recipe exactly a certain number of times before they get bored with it and try something just a little different - with good or bad results. The better the cook, the more often they are successful before something goes wrong and they return to the original recipe. [Added: A one-time cast could be using up a favor or credit owed to you by some entity outside yourself. Charlie the demon owes you one - but just one.]
