Mine only has about 600 days and I was thinking about 6 gold. However, I'm not sure if that's reasonable, Hedge was supposed to be handling the research and sale, but he hasn't been around too much lately.

A really really annoying layout shift on menu expand
Ivorak replied to No one's topic in Resolved Bugs
No one, I'm not seeing this in my browser. -
I'm selling one. If you can't find me in realm, you can also speak to Hedge Munos about acquiring it as I've commissioned him to sell it for me (but I'd be happy to bypass that arrangement).

I come to the forums for ideas, plans, and announcements (In my opinion, most everything else should happen in game). Unfortunately I find a lot more than that. As for all this discussion of what it means to be rude, I'd like to offer one guideline. Avoid ad hominems. As some have tried stating previously, argue for and against ideas, not people. Do not attack people. It's not to their advantage but it's not to yours either. Stupid ideas are stupid ideas. But here's the thing: I've made them, you've made them. They're easy to get fed up with, but the thing that I'm really fed up with is the idea that mistakes should define a person negatively without the possibility of redemption. I'm upset that our squabbles are so full of personal attacks because we can't step back and see that regardless of whether or not we were right and 'they' were wrong that MagicDuel is something more than that. ...okay, I've said what I had to say. Now I'd like to backtrack. I said do not attack people. Don't. Unless you're going to stab them (the character, that is) in the back with your trusty blade. Sometimes, just sometimes, action is better than words. (And maybe I'll even let you borrow my dagger for a month, for the right price. For self defense, of course.)

[log=Day 132, Year 8] Eagle Eye: How are you? Ivorak: I am well : Eagle Eye smiles Ivorak: You? Eagle Eye: Im good : Ivorak nods to De Mimsy Eagle Eye: Hello De Mimsy Eagle Eye: Long name to type : De Mimsy Porpington raises a hand in greeting De Mimsy Porping.: Most call me Mimsy Eagle Eye: ok, how are you Mimsy? De Mimsy Porping.: Alright, and you? Ivorak: *interrupts* Fabulous, and how's your back, my dear and long lost friend? Eagle Eye: Me, I am well Eagle Eye: :) Eagle Eye: thinking? De Mimsy Porping.: Refreshed, after a death of sorts Ivorak: Good, good, and ghastly, eh? Ivorak: Well, you're just in time to help me with my garden plot. Ivorak: Ava planted some bryony for me a while back, but neglected it from thence forth De Mimsy Porping.: Which reminds me that I must be going... De Mimsy Porping.: How unfortunate Ivorak: You can help me pull up what few plants grew, and we can reseed the plot. Ivorak: Another time, perhaps? De Mimsy Porping.: Perhaps De Mimsy Porping.: Farewell Ivorak: And if you see Avaritia, send her my way. Eagle Eye: Hello Dan Ivorak: Or that fellow Hedge. He has no arms at the moment, but nimble feet : Eagle Eye looks to the garden : Eagle Eye get some tank of water truck : Eagle Eye waters the garden Eagle Eye: Hello lashtal : Ivorak trods over to his plot and begins uprooting his dying bryony plants : Eagle Eye glady happy : Ivorak tosses them into a pile to clear away later and proceeds to the toolshed : Ivorak hoes a depressed line in which to plan the next generation : Ivorak plants a section of the line with the berries of the old plants and the rest with new seeds from a folded packet Ivorak: Well see if anything comes of this half. Ivorak: *sighs* Or that half, really. : Eagle Eye the garden smiles : Eagle Eye his voices say thank you : Ivorak covers the seeds with soil and waters [/log]

Something I just noticed. I can only see who has liked a post when I'm logged out.

As someone who was rarely given negative reputation (it's kind of hard to check now, but I don't think I had any posts below -1) I'm still really in favor of the new setup. By liking something with your name attached, you can show your support for an idea without cluttering the forum. I also support the removal of negative reputation because having it discourages people to speak up on controversial topics (these things need to be discussed, but not shouted). Another reason I think a lot of negative rep is given is poorly phrased posts (sometimes I'll see posts I think are agreeing with each other, one downvoted the other upvoted, and then a huge argument follows). Miscommunication happens to all of us ocassionally and it's better resolved with clarifications then downvoting that immediately puts others on the defensive. That's just one reason though. My main concern is that we practice cutting people and their ideas down too much. Yes, some ideas suck, but if we want to make MagicDuel a better place we get there by making it better, not just by tearing down what is bad. Please, if you don't like an idea, voice some concerns constructively, then propose a better one and help make it reality.
Perhaps adepts could be waited based on active days, like voting for citizenship?
More weight for less age or for more age?

The council cannot be truly transparent. Many things require opacity, such as the planning of community events and especially quests or discussions of things that may impact player privacy. That said, I loved the updates from the council posts. I'd also like to see more members of the council with specialized roles. If you need this, go to this person. Some things should require consensus of the council, but other things can probably be delegated to individual council members. This would be more efficient I think. The council and coders are working towards a system where players have more control (the first stages of citizenship are a step in this direction). We may be impatient that these things aren't happening that quickly, but things are probably going as fast as they can. I'd encourage you to make the most of what you have as you wait. We certainly haven't done that yet.

Fyrd Argentus - Major Rededication of Focus
Ivorak replied to Fyrd Argentus's topic in New Player Roles and Legends
Sorry, Fyrd. I've been a bit busy, but have some free time now. For now, three things.

Accounting. I pledged some gold before. I'm removing the restrictions I had on that matching bid, so now anyone can donate to this effort and have their donation matched (up to 15 gold, I think it was). I owe the effort six gold currently.
Quest idea. If anyone is a board game enthusiast or just has a knack for organizing big games/events, I have a quest idea that you might be able to run. It would take place partly on the forum, hopefully mostly in game, though if you're good at coding clickables we could keep it from cluttering up the forum even more. It would require quite a few prizes (I can provide a number, I think) as it is a collaborative effort that pits land against land. Contact me for more details, no commitment required off the bat.
Magazine. Hedge Munos and I just launched the first issue of The Whimsy, a short, oft-satirical, magazine for MagicDuel. Read it here. We'd love your help for future issues. Send us ideas, articles, drawings, etc. (We plan to publish every two weeks, but we can do more if submissions are plentiful.)
Working on another quest, we'll see where that goes. -
Why wasn't this definition stated before then when we were asked about whether or not to keep the rule for nominations of those for our own land?

Vote for the new head of Treasure Keepers
Ivorak replied to Fire Starter's topic in Treasure Keepers
I vote ZenTao. I think all of the candidates discussed would be capable, but ZenTao has put in the time, has proven reliable and levelheaded, and is knowledgeable about all relevant matters. I see no need for someone from outside the organization to take over (Fang's poor leadership should not reflect upon his underlings.), but I do feel that having someone newer to the realm (but old enough to be well experienced) in a position of power as a good thing. And I think ZenTao is due credit for sticking it out through the tough times. -
Against the award and the name.

I am against evil/most hated.

Thank you all, for the birthday wishes!

I would propose just three. Preeminent Role Player, Champion Fighter, and Outstanding Service to MD (this last one encompasses quest organizers, wiki editors, etc., and should be a measure of all activity that helps the community).
-
I think there should be no restriction on nominations based upon land. But as dst guessed, I don't really care this year. I haven't witnessed enough activity to warrant awards across 15 categories. I'd rather that people personally gifted those who they think are deserving or influential than than a big sanctioned awards festival that exists just to continue a tradition.
-
I'm not sure what you're proposing here. Perhaps a quick mockup would help (screenshots and some arrows with captions should be sufficient).
Is it WORKING for anybody else, before I test more?
Works for me.

I wonder how many MDers are paying customers (perhaps better to consider this historically when numbers of players were higher than now, since we are after a higher number of players). When I first started MD I never considered paying for anything. It just wasn't that important to me, even if I fell in love with it immediately. I still don't pay, because I don't have much disposable income (well, no income really) but if I did, I would, because it's become an important part of my day to day life. So maybe the focus should be on getting more customers who will pay then squeezing more out out of those who probably will anyway. I don't see that many people paying for regenerations except when they've gone through some other categories and want what comes after those regenerations. Maybe I'm mistaken. Without data, it's hard to tell.
-
There's also nothing speaking of what happens to the reduction of income to MD because the people that are getting use out of the items from you buying them, aren't buying them themselves? You've already said that you don't mind spending the credits anyway, so in a financial viewpoint, your contribution is maintained either way, the income from this other player, is not.
I'm not sure this will be a problem. If people are only buying the regeneration rituals to get to the other items further in the shop, then while the new players won't need to spend to get the regenerations, they will still need to buy those regenerations before they can get those other items, so they will still end up purchasing the regenerations. I like this idea. I think that it would encourage helping others, and maybe giving regenerations to new players may lead to other positive interactions, which are always good for the future of MD. The potential for abuse doesn't seem too great, but perhaps more specifics are needed before we can determine that. Oh, and they should not be able to be put into items, unless those items are limited use. That almost goes without saying.

Fyrd Argentus - Major Rededication of Focus
Ivorak replied to Fyrd Argentus's topic in New Player Roles and Legends
Could you clarify, Kiley? I'm not sure if you're disagreeing with the first or second sentence. My thoughts: Ideas don't bubble out of nothing. They are influenced and shaped by the world we live in. And they grow stronger through the tug and pull of others' thoughts (be they agreement, additions, or counterarguments). -
Fyrd Argentus - Major Rededication of Focus
Ivorak replied to Fyrd Argentus's topic in New Player Roles and Legends
I'm much more fond of Redivivus or Vision than Yggdrasil. Yggdrasil just seems to rooted in a specific tradition. The more general Tree of Life, though, it isn't shabby. I do like it, more and more. Or (forgive me for more Latin) how about Visus, meaning the power of sight or a vision. I am against acronyms, but Vision on it's own works fine.
